I have almost always used Enterprise but I have found that there are some regional firms like Fox that can beat the price and have great service. The weekly rentals are always the best rates. If you check Travelocity or Priceline before you come you can get an estimate of which companies are available where you are going and what the different care classes cost.
I usually get a luxury car, because I usually need to carry 5-6 people, and they cost about $340 per week, but I have done better when shopping ahead.

We used an online company called Alamo, they have depots all over US. We hired for 2 weeks, it was cheaper that way. We found the, a considerable amount cheaper than any other big names! Enjoy

Budget is a good company, and weekly is always a better rate.
Figure it out, call for daily prices and a weekly rate, you'll see weekly is better.

weekly deals are better. however
you get what you pay for.
stick with the big names.
avis, hertz (i used to work for them in australia and they are great), etc.
some smaller companies have hidden traps like excess km charges and they try to charge you for scratches or chips that were already there.
