Yes, there are sites where you can download freeware, such as: http://softpedia.com/ and http://www.download.com/
Generally,music and movies are not free and downloading them for free can be fraught with dangers.
There's a lot of 'freeware' laced with spyware, so stick to the two sites mentioned above.

Freeware is typically software offered the user by the author for free. You do need to be careful with freeware as some contain trojans.
Most movies and songs are not offered for free unless they have been bootlegged.

Freeware is completely free software for computers. Yahoo Messenger is counted as a freeware because it's free to download and use, well, mostly. other freewares like pc games are usually low-tech ones or outdated ones
