Because the US has been trying to remove poverty since 1950 and we are richer than India and we haven't been able to do it.
There are more Indians used to a lower life style then there are US citizens. Some of your people are still living pretty much as their ancestors did when the British claimed to rule the joint. Up grading them to a decent standard of living in just a few years is going to be very tough work.
In the US we have homeless people and I think we will always have homeless people; it is one of those dirty facts of life. In India you have a lot of people drinking polluted water, and living in horrible unsanitary conditions that just makes their lives miserable and only adds to the poverty. India is now known as the graveyard of ships because your countrymen are willing to disassemble a ship despite the hazardous chemicals and conditions for almost next to no pay. You have business men who are making a profit off of this misery and it is in their best interest to make sure it continues. So they are going to resist any efforts to clean up the industry.
You have been very successful at taking away jobs from America, because you can do them better and cheaper. But, doing it cheaper is at the cost of a cheaper standard of living. Now your nations idea of poverty is much lower than an American's idea, but at some point you are as poor as dirt and it can't get any worse. We still have people like that; fresh immigrants, migrant workers, poor farmers the homeless, and a lot of people working a minimum wage service jobs because the high paying technical support jobs have gone to India. I am not blaming you for our problems; this practice of outsourcing is just one of a hundred problems. I think that India is going to find similar problems.
For example hundreds of people put their dead in you major river; the Ganges, and they do it for religious reasons so they are not likely to stop doing it. Meanwhile thousands of people drink and bathe in that same water. This causes rampant disease. One of Africa's many problems is that with the new moving around of people the disease malaria has infected new people with slightly different strains and it is killing the economy. Eradication of disease is a major effort to jump start the economy. You are going to have resistance to that.
France tried to build the Panama Canal and failed. The US did it and succeeded. But, not before they sent the Corp of Engineers in and spent two years getting rid of the malaria carrying misquote. They didn't turn a single shovel full of dirt over until that was done, because the lost work hours of the people who where sick and the lost hours of those who had to take care of them helped to destroy the French effort. It is the same thing that is strangling the economy of Africa and it is going to be a burden around your necks; made only the stronger because of you population.
America has a whole lot of problems, but disease, especially infectious ones are pretty rare and quickly treated when they crop up. We worry if a single class room comes down with a case of head lice. We suffer from the flu like everyone else because it keeps mutating, but we have a strong inoculation program against it. West Nile disease just started appearing and when it rears its ugly head the city's response is to rush into the area and kill as many misquotes as it can. India doesn't have organized efforts like that, nor does Africa and disease robs you of your workers.
I don’t pretend to know all the problems facing your country, but disease and the traditions that will keep it going is one major one. The fact that your people are so willing to work for such cheap wages is another one, and the fact that your people are willing to work in hazardous conditions with no protection is another.
Your population is both a blessing and a curse, you have a huge manpower (and woman power) pool to draw from, but they also get in the way and you have so many people that your utilities, roads, rails and other systems are clogged with them. You have the potential to do a lot and to become a super power. You are already a great power because you have a nuclear AND you have a space program and few nations can claim that. But, I don’t see you getting rid of poverty when the West has been trying to do it for over 100 years and hasn’t succeeded. I do see you raising the general standard of living, but I think there will always be poor people.
I see a long tough road for India and your proximity to the emerging super power of China doesn’t help. The West has reached its height and while we may not fall, we are not going to get any stronger. New growth and new development will happen more in the East and more and more people are going to realize that and more and more people are going to start taking advantage of that over the decades to come.
There is no doubt in my mind that both China and India will become super powers, but China will get there first and they will resent any competition in the area. They may not be your foes yet, but soon you will be at each throats like the US and Russia once were. The competition for shrinking resources is going to guarantee it. Both nations can’t keep up their pace of development because of that single problem. Global Warming may or may not be a factor, but the simple fact that there is a limit on the amount of iron and oil you can get is. The world is running out of that and it won’t be long before China and the US are going to be fighting for what’s left. Maybe not a physical battle; the weapons are too dangerous for that, but continued proxy fights and a new Cold War could happen. When that happens India will be caught straddling the middle trying not to tick off either side. That too will be a factor that will slow growth.

Well india has greatly developed over the recent years.. economy wise mukesh ambani of relaince beats bill gates to be the richest man on earth.. entertainment and other aspects too we have greatly progressed.. all the western star including meallica shakira black eyed peas etc have concerts here and they love the country.. as you said we have great malls to hang out with friends.. we have a very good quality education system here and an indian school kid is anyday more intelligent than his american counterpart.. and we are as tech savvy as you all are.. tose who can afford it have a great life here and live a much better life of substance than there.. I would not like to take support of culture to justify myself coz thats not a valid reason now but still most of the NRI's would rather their kids studied in india than anywhere else.. and talking about corruption it exists everywhere.. the fact that we are progressing so much with such a huge population and so much corruption shows how much effort is being put in .. we are very patient people.. we last on indian roads and drive around on roads where there is hardly a space of an inch between 2 cars and a person who can drive here can drive anywhere else.. given the same population and the same roads others can hardly survive for a few days!! And the same NRI's who are so culture in their present place become the same indicent people in india and dont care about the rules so basically they actually cannot comment on the country just because they once lived there.. and if they really care ask them to do something worthwhile for it...

I believe the answer is plain and simple pessimism. The NRIs are embittered, and the Economists have no Crystal Ball.Remember the youth of India must preserve Unity,A sense of Spirituality,Educational Foals and Direction, and all of the other factors I have been harping on.Also remember or always keep in mind Adaptability. An unchanging Economy that is oblivious to Technological change will surely stagnate.Eventually the world will have to understand that they can't keep Technological growth and discoveries all to themselves but must share with the world for the survival of all.As for the moment there is a lack of trust and too much greediness for the world to effectively deal with its problems. We(the world) must pull together or perish. It's not a struggle between love and hate but between trust and greediness. Earlier I typed educational foals and direction but I meant to type educational goals and sirection.

that is because it is said that the rich will only get richer and the poor will only get poorer. they have believed it but are not making any effort to change that and they know what they are doing.
