By 2050 if not earlier China and the US will be in at least a Cold War over resources. If China keeps using resources at her current level she will have gone through the entire planet in only a century, and we all know the US is the greatest energy consumer.

India may fall into the Chinese camp because you are closer in culture and location, but India is closer in government to the US and they will not want to be dominated by China. India is not a super power, yet, but she will be. She is one of the few nations to have both a space program and a nuclear program and she has a vast untapped manpower pool, more so than China. A lot of China is the Gobi desert, where most of India is fertile land.

Both nations are starting off at relatively the same point, but China is moving faster because their government has the “just do it and the hell with the consequences” type of attitude. The Indian people had enough of that under the British and they won’t take it. They are democratic and just as proud as the Americans are to have escaped British rule. We may be allies with Britain now, but that hasn’t changed our feverous political demand for freedom. If push comes to shove India will not submit to China. If war breaks out then heaven help Pakistan, because India sure won’t they can’t stand the Pakistanis. The US could get caught in the middle, but not for long, we are not going to get involved in another South Asia war, especially if China is involved.

India may have to stand on her own. If so she will be in direct competition for resources with China in the region and that won’t be good. I am sure the Indian government knows this and is taking measures to protect themselves. I would hate to see a war erupt over there, it might be to the advantage of the US if one did, but it would not be to the advantage to the world and civilization in general.

India has to step careful in the next few decades. She is as technically advanced as China, but China has more factories and they are stealing more technology to become more advanced (they already have an IPhone clone and it works with more networks). If push came to shove I feel the US citizens could trust the Indians more than the Chinese. We have more in common and we both have governments that are answerable to the people, the Chinese do not. If India says they won’t poach on the US then I will believe them, if China says it then I would start patrolling the fences.

Your prediction is a pretty safe one and almost an absolute certainty. How it will come out is in doubt though and I for one am an American pulling for India. We may hate losing our jobs to India, but at least we know they will be done right. The Chinese are famous for stealing technology, cloning technological goods and producing pure and utter cr_p. We have had dozens of children’s toy recalls in the US because of lead paint. If they were Indian made toys I doubt we would have as much problems. The trouble is that China is undercutting everyone in the world market so they are out selling everyone. This gives them a huge amount of power and they are not afraid to use it. If India gets in China’s way then India is going to be in for a whole lot of trouble.
