I have a huge dilemma. I am soon to be 29 and I have been working for a while but due to bills I don't have much money saved up. Without any thought I applied for school (to start in Jan 08) But ideally, I would like to have a few hundred dollars. I kept thinking about my lack of money....so I postponed college until Aug 08 so I could continue working and save. During this time I might be able to pursue other things, like my writing, auctions, other money making things. But I'm starting to wonder if I did the right thing. I'm getting older....should I have postponed school like that? Should I just take a risk and call them up today so I can go to school in Jan 08 regardless of how my funds look? Part of me knows I should go to school....we are always told to go to school. But damn...why does it feel wrong?

I agree with the previous poster, look at your major, if it's going to be something that won't increase your living substantially you should put it off until you can get rid of your debt. If your going for something like a software engineer where you can make good money right out of the gate, then by all means go for it. It might be a good idea in fact to get a job doing holiday help for a few months here to further reduce your debt and make you able to go to school sooner.

Yes, school is important. No, it's not the end all and be all in being successful. If it's going to launch your career to the next income bracket, then by all means, I would say go for it. However, if it's not going to help by much, I'd say get rid of your debt first and foremost, that way you don't have yet "another" thing to distract you from work and school.
