At our office, no one person has tons of money, so we are taking up food, toiletries, etc. for 2 small families at Thanksgiving, and we'll bring them Thanksgiving dinner. Also, we are looking for a Christmas family to sponsor, and we'll get what's on their list. With 20 people, it's a lot easier to do some good.

Are there any people you know about that don't have anyone close to them, like family or friends, that might end up all alone on Christmas Day? We had an elderly neighbor like that we always invited over for Christmas Day. It certainly didn't cost much to set a place for her at our table and buy her a couple little presents. I really miss having her here to share Christmas with since she passed away.

Get with other mothers with young children and go caroling at the local hospital, hospice, nursing homes or retirement/assisted living homes. Keep the songs simple like "Jingle Bells", "Rudolph" and of course "Silent Night". Be sure to call the places in advance to find out what the best day and time would be to go.

How about doing something nice for your children....like volunteering with them at a shelter for those less fortunate, that will teach them that Christmas isn't all about the gifts....it's about giving from your heart, and it will show them that you care about them, because you are trying to make the world a brighter place for someone....random acts of kindness are infectious !!!

Check out Oxfam. Last Christmas, one of the "gifts" my mother-in-law gave my husband and me were donations in our name to Oxfam. My husband's gift was safe drinking water for 25 people in a poverty-stricken area. Being an animal lover, my gift was a donation towards an Alpaca.

I used to be on my way to bring a number of things for the subsequent days meal. My thoughts were of household and love. The close full moon, in all its cool stillness used to be proper there in the ice covered branches of trees. Warm within, as gazing that icy sight, all felt well in the world.
