Sad to say, DEATH. Example, Socrates, Gandhi, Galileo, Martin Luther King, Jesus Christ...etc.

Even in the allegory of the cave Plato already presented this situation. The one who escape from the cave, the disciple of the true light, was murdered by the people in the cave who thought the light in the cave is the only source of true light.

In some cases, you and your family would even experience starvation and poverty , like in the case of Karl Marx.

Its really a sad story for those who wanted to be true disciples of truth. That would include philosophers.

Self respect is the great reward of being the disciple of truth..... the true seekers of truth in any case look for no other reward...... truth itself is the reward for them.

Nichiren Daishonin was persecuted his entire life from the time he announced the truth of life. There were many attempts on his life. Those were unsuccessful. He accomplished what he set out to do. That is a rare case in the annals of dedication to truth.

The reward is usually death by the surrounding stupidity and cravenness

Truth in general? Telling the Truth no matter what? Is that what you are talking about?
I know one time at work I had done something that at the time needed to be done, but was against the rules. When my boss confronted me I told her "Yes. I know it was wrong, but I did do it." I could of gotten into allot of trouble. But I stood on the truth. She wrote me up and I went on my way.
A few weeks later she came to me and asked me if I had done something or knew who did it.
I told her no, I didn't do it and no I didn't know who did it.
She smiled and said "I knew to come to you first because you tell the truth."
That was such a wonderful reward.
Knowing that my words were not doubted!

A death in pure ignorance.

And when they say "ignorance is bliss"... they were right.

My knowledge has damned me. My understanding brought me to terms with it though. Either way: I came across it primarily because it was NOT truth I was looking for, as that leads to naught but petty constructs. Rather I searched only for function and reason... and saw where all things meet.
