I know this is a really retarded question, but I'm getting my first electric guitar as well as an amp, and I don't know if I need to buy a cable to connect them. If links are needed, they are below:

Guitar: Yamaha PAC012: http://www.guitarcenter.com/Yamaha-PAC012-Electric-Guitar-101676138-i1146642.gc

Amp: Behringer V-Tone GM108: http://www.guitarcenter.com/Behringer-V-Tone-GM108-15W-Modeling-Guitar-Combo-Amp-480698-i1145403.gc

Also, any advice and/or recommendations would be helpful too!

The guitar and amp are not in a set, but are sold separately. Also, if I need a cable, how do I know what kind to get?

Not retarded at all. What you want is a standard guitar cable, most commonly referred to as a 1/4" plug cable. View some here:

The more expensive ones will last longer. You can also pick these up at any Radio Shack, most "dollar" stores, and some department stores. I tend to go through cables fairly quickly as I play six or seven guitars regularly. Because of this, I always make sure I have a spare (new) on hand. For recording and live performance, I'd invest in a good cable.
I would not, however get suckered into the real expensive ones, because they're not any better than the cheaper ones. They do look good, and the plugs may be of better quality (sometimes gold), but the wires inside are all about the same.

if it is a set with a guitar and an amp, it will have a free cord
but if you buy them separately always check them first if it has a cable or cord. When I bought mine it is in set with a guitar, an amp, a tuner, 3 picks, 6 strings, a soft case, strap, cord and a manual. btw its a yamaha

Ask a pro at a Guitar Center for help. You might be very happy with all of their help there too.

Most guitar shops will throw one in if you buy the amp from them...you will need one.
