That's a loaded question. If you stop and get gas at your usual place and there is a new cashier- do treat that person like garbage or with a reasonable modicum of respect and common decency? If the new cashier turns out to be a jack-***, you'll undoubtedly treat less respectfully next time. However, I personally believe that respect has to be earned every day. When you go to sleep at night all bets are off and the next morning you have start earning respect all over.

Yes. Respect does have to be earned. However, it's possible for a man to inwardly respect a woman, but not show that respect outwardly. Men can act respectfully toward a woman whether she's earned it or not. I think it's called being courteous.

No. No. No. No.
Respect does not have to be earned. At least the first time it is given it's does not have to be earned. If respect is lost then it needs to be earned to get it back.
You should automatically show respect to EVERYONE upon meeting, male or female.
Imagine what the world would be like with no respect. Because that is what it would be if everyone you meet needed to "earn" it before it was given.
Try to imagine just your life if everyone was disrespectful to you everywhere you went.

Yes I believe respect has to be earned on both sides and if men and women got to know eachother before heading to the bedroom than this wouldn't be an issue.

I dont know if I am a soft touch, but I give people respect until it is lost through their behaviour. If respect must be earned, then why show respect to someone you have never met? That doesnt seem right to me.

Who ever told you we always cry when guys dont respect us?
Respect is being earned but one does not need to cry to be able to earn it.

up to a point yes, however respect is something that should be given automatically on face value, then as time goes on greater respect is earned or not as necessary.
we should have a certain amount of respect for everyone without having to know everyone personally, it is not possible to know everyone, it is however possible to hold a certain amount of respect for everyone.

Yes, indeed it does - however I think the problem lies deeper than that.
If you are not taught as a child the value of respect, you will not be able to respect anyone (earned of otherwise) - in fact you will not even be able to respect yourself.
