Our military is not just keeping our nation safe, they are also contributing to the freedom and democracy of countries worldwide. Proper medical treatment should not have to be begged for or considered a reward.

As a veteran who freely enlisted, hearing the phrase "Society owes us a debt or obligation" is almost offensive. Those veterans who were drafted do have much more to bit** about! A heart filled thank you is greatly appreciated.

I would feel very much honored if I did not have to beg for proper medical treatment. All I want is my life back and respect from a knowledgeable health care provider. Thank you

It is the American way, it is done to foster the competitive spirit, acknowledge imagination that has given us an easier and more healthy lifestyle. It stimulates creativity.
Because these folks go above and beyond the "what ever" attitude that prevails today.
It is sad that it is not being done much in the schools anymore.

However the best example is I can present is: peace, it is not free, what we have here in this country was earned.

Our little town, just had a ceremony to place a memorial marker at the grave of a solder who fought in the revolutionary war.
The reason " we honor one of the men who helped give us this great nation and the freedoms we have."

We should continually remember and honor all the men and women who fought/fight in any war that helps to keep us free and safe.
Lest we forget, we sink backward.

Because a lot of people will only undertake this type of work if there is something in it for them.

I don't think it is a need. I think it is a desire to say thanks. It is what we learn as children. Mom fixes Oreos and milk for the kids; they are grateful; they say thank you.

to be able to urge them to contribute more and its a way of saying thanks
