Because they stole from the poor and gave to the wealthy

Because they extorted eome of the monies received and stealing from the people. They were collaborators with the Romans .Some of led a disreputable life beyond their economic work

They often took more money than they should have done so they had some for themselves. Also, the Jews already had to pay money to the temple so resented having to pay taxes to the Romans as well.
