I agree that we are going mad with health and safety laws. To think that a police officer is unable to help rescue a child from a lake without the worry of having a disciplinary hanging over their heads is ludicrous. Unfortunately although some people only see this as a "labour" issue it is in fact a party wide issue and something much bigger than that.
In a society who pretty much feel that we are owed everything and want everthing this only spreads out into the wider paths of our lives and so we want to protect everything. People are afraid to go out rightly or wrongly and can feel intimidated by people wearing "hoodies" so the shopping malls ban people from wearing them on their patch. It doesn't stop people wearing them. Infact kids imparticular feel they need to stand their ground and why ever not. Its not the hood thats going to get you. Its a person and they come in all shapes and sizes and in all different packaging.
Equally I heard myself saying fireworks should only be put on in displays. I might be wrong afterall despite the fact that there are lots of incidents with them each year they have always been around to have at home or where ever and just because I don't like the idea of them being sold o Joe public who am I to say that we can't all take responsilbiltiy for ourselves.????
The balance has gotten ridiculous but to say that this country is **** is shameful and if people reading this have exception to this wonderful place pack your bags....

I know what you mean.
The Americans are worse!
No smoking in bars, No masks on Halloween, High School Uniforms, Students required to take abstinence pledges, no kissing kids in church, Christmas displays being banned because there isn't a start of David next to it - this is hardly the world the Hippies envisioned.
The world needs to chill out!

There have been certain fireworks banned. But that's a good thing.
Knives (such as Swiss army knives are not allowed to be carried by kids)
EDIT:Being able to film at school concerts or taking photos has been banned at some schools because of the possibility of pervs.I think the smoking ban is good though, being a cancer patient and all.

It's not Health and Safty laws, it's stupid people who don't understand health and safty.
The idea is to take sensible steps about safety: ie to take precautions about likely accidents, not to take prevenative steps against absolutely everything that can go wrong, no matter how remote the chance of it happening or trivial the consequences.
It's sad to read all these replies from people who act on what they hear about things being banned rather than checking the facts for themselves. It's people who act on what they've heard that cause the straightjacket of H&S to tighten, not officials making laws.
Many of the things that are banned are not banned by law, but by rules set by overprotective idiots. You may find that lots of the things you think are banned actually aren't.
There is a whole page of myths at the HSE.
http://www.hse.gov.uk/myth/index.htm
They are sick of being painted as bad guys, and frequently make clear that the idea of H&S is not for people to stop doing things but to think about what they do.
Unfortunately to think about what they are doing is too much effort for some people (withness the nuber of thickies who think sorting rubbish into recyclable and non-recyclable is difficult or onerous) so you may as well be saying not to do things.

The only thing I know of which has actually been banned countrywide is smoking in public places and hoorah for that - now people can enjoy social pursuits without returning home smelling like chimney stacks and with tar in their lungs. Contrary to seemingly popular belief: smacking children has NOT been banned, firework displays have NOT been banned, smoking while driving your own car has NOT been specifically banned, and Christmas has NOT been banned. Cerain decisions have been taken on the grounds of Health and safety, and it is bizarre how EXACTLY the same people who complain about the 'infringement of their rights' would be the FIRST to get their noses into the compensation trough if they suffered any injury as a result of pursuing that 'right'.

living in Britain is getting uglier and uglier. the colour is draining out of our lives. PC...Human rights....Health and safety are all good things. but thanks to self serving quango's have been taken out of all proportion. the people need to claim their lives and their country back. new labour have wrecked our life styles completely. and have allowed immigrants to dictate over our own culture. new labour have to be removed from power allong with all three main streem governments. and the people need to vote outside the circle. we have to drop this stupid idea that a vote outside the three main parties is a wasted vote.....it isnt. all three are taking us into the PC ridden open bordered nightmare of the EU. so this can only get worse if we dont look for alternatives. you may not like 100% of what you see in a party outside the circle BUT!! if your in it. you can vote 'internaly for cirtain changes'........our country needs us like never before. and all that is British is being sold off by the main three traitors that they would have us tied to. ....answere!! cut the bonds and vote with your heart. throw PC out of the window. its a destructive force that is bringing Britain and its people nothing but missery.

Because your country is ban slap happy.
I remember Sir Elton John publicly came out in support of banning something or other. All I could think is the guy is gay, and one of these days he's going to be banned too.
A ban may seem good at the time, but then it is taken to extremes when the public morphs into some other kind of thinking and then no one is protected.
I think its time we ban the ban worldwide.
Peace
Jim

We now live in a sad and desperate country that is crushed by a PC dictatorship who seem to hate us all and want to keep us indoors and out of trouble as much as possible to make their lives easier. There is no common sense in the banning that has grown from the fear of litigation. Everyhing is just done with such stupidity here and our souls as well as our country is being utterly destroyed by this and out of control immigration. God help us all.

You will never be able to live as your parents and grandparents did, they ruined it for you because, as they got older, they stopped fighting for things because they were growing old and tired, then you came along and you fight for nothing, you expect everything.

Take a look at George Orwell's 'Animal Farm' (or another look if you've read the book or seen the film before).
Gordon (Napoleon) Brown stars in it, and his party make some attempt to explain their policies, and why they are so good for us (the proletariat).
