All valid answers so far; even if they seem sarcastic to you. I'll assume you're a "Virgin" to mailing a package???

Obviously a trip to the post office; proper labeling; and postage costs are strictly neccesary; but you should also consider WHAT you're mailing; as one answer suggested "Packing". Beyond that; relative to the WHAT; might mean sending anything in the various ways the PO allows; IE: Priority/ Express/ First class/ Parcel post/ and those might be relative also to how fast you want something to get somewhere.

If I wanted to ship a very expensive; antique clock; I probably wouldn't just throw it in a box and send it Parcel Post. On the other side of that; if I wanted to send a Book; I might just box it and send it "Media Rate"

Visit the post office and learn the size limits,
and rules on what may be shipped by mail.
If your package is legal and within the size limits,
and is securely packed and properly addressed,
you're good to go back and mail it.

wrap it with paper & seal it with packing tape. (don't use twine as it gets caught in the machinery it travels through for sorting) I usually put the address on both sides, printing larger on the one side I put the stamps on.

Wrap it well, address it, put your return address on it.
Take it to the Post office and they will take care of the rest of it.
