3 kids. 2 dogs. And I need a new vacuum cleaner. Mine died the other day and it sucks. Any suggestions?

If you've got money to invest in a vacuum, I'd suggest a Kirby. They're very expensive, but are darn near indestructible, last for ages, and you steam clean carpets with them (using attachments). Because the warranty is so good, and the machine is so well made you probably won't need another vacuum for more than 15 years.

They're not sold in stores, but through in-home demonstrations. A rep will come out, show you the machine, all the cool cleaning stuff it can do, and probably vacuum &/or steam clean a room for you during the sales pitch. They are on the expensive side ($1000+), but if you don't completely drool over the machine during the sales pitch, the price will start dropping as the reps would rather make a sale than walk out with that vacuum.

DO NOT get a Dyson. They are just all talk and definitely no action and they are JUNK...especially with pet hair.

I would suggest a simple Hoover or a used Kirby if you're short on cash.

A Henry or a Kirby get the job done though. I have my Kirby for years and has not had one problem.

A Henry or a Kirby get the job done though. My mother in law has had her Kirby for 9 years and has not had one problem.
