I can't rename files without that blue screen of death, can't move files anywhere without it crashing, can't do anything too quickly without it getting confused!
It's only a few months old, maintained well with business standard virus protection! Argh!

I know how you feel....
Computers are great when they are behaving... but THE most frustrating waste of time and effort when they decide to give you a hard time.
Computing has been my job for most of my working life.....
but theres always some days when you just hate them ....
.....have a better day tomorrow....

Norton's a joke, as is mcafee. It is very possible you got something that was smart enough to bypass your AV. Easy enough when using Norton, some worms will bypass even some of the best. Have you tried system restore? or a reformat? I think it sounds like you got something that has laughed at Norton and is working on trying to distroy your computer, hence the only way to completely get rid of it would be a reformat.

For me, i like computers.
It seems that your computer have bad, corrupted system files and the way to fix it is to reinstall your Operating System. Full formatting will surely clean your hard drive for any viruses or spyware. Repair option in Windows XP can also do the job, if you can't backup your files.
Virus is not the only cause of having corrupted system files, it can also be caused by bad installation of other programs and installation of hardware devices and its drivers.
Goodluck!

The problem isn't always the computer, usually it's the user. But maybe you should have bought one that cost a little more and wouldn't have as many problems. I built my own computer and it is the best thing I ever did in that respect. Works better than any store-bought, but I don't think you have the patience to do something like that.
What you need to do is calm down, install anti-spyware, ad-ware etc.,

Computers . . . FEH!!! They ain t HUMAN!!! They drive people apart, they take peoples jobs, and they re too goddam complicated!!! Look at it this way: Homo Sapiens managed to build cities, produce stunning artworks, eat/sleep/reproduce, etc.. WITHOUT the aid of computers!!! IF THEY CAN DO IT, WE CAN DO IT!!!
