Charles I

Charles I, the second Stuart, not only overthrown, but beheaded, father of Charles II, who was restored to the throne when Cromwell died.

Of Charles II it was said, "he never said a foolish thing, nor ever did a wise one", but he was beloved by the people and lots more fun than Cromwell.

Charles I was overthrown, - captured, - tried, on trumped-up charges of "HIGH TREASON", and, - on the morning of 30 JANUARY, 1649, - publicly EXECUTED, by BEHEADING, - on a SCAFFOLD, that had, - again, on the DIRECT ORDERS of Cromwell, himself, - been erected outside the Banquetting Hall, in the Palace of WHITEHALL.

However, the "SUPPORTERS" of the late Monarch, - though they waited several YEARS, - DID have a SORT of "REVENGE" on Cromwell.

When Charles II, ascended the Throne, in 1661, the body of Oliver Cromwell was DUG UP, from his grave, - he died in 1658, - and, - as Cromwell had ordered, for Charles I, - the body of the "LORD PROTECTOR" was, - albeit, ceremonially, - DECAPITATED, with the SAME headsman's AXE!
