REPRESENTATION! (couldn't put the whole word there)

We are being taxed, but yet NAFTA can come in and tell OUR elected officials what to do, and per NAFTA's "Laws" which DO supersede our Supreme court (don't believe me, it is right there in the legislation). But yet we don't elect the people who represent the US in either NAFTA, CAFTA, OR the SPP..How is this legal?

RJ, I respect your thoughts, but it doesn't have to do with Republican OR Democrat...they are BOTH knee deep into this mess and are only out for themselves and big business. The facts are that Bush Sr. signed it originally and then Clinton implemented it. Same with Bush pushing the SPP.

NAFTA is a small step in a bigger plan to join Canada and Mexico and what would be the result of that ? Answer - US Constitution null and void . So the issues you bring up are important if one wants to stop it but not important to anyone trying to implement it .

It most likely is both illegal, and unconstitutional, but when the same politicians who have secretly enacted such treaties also nominate members of supreme court, will they bite the hand that feeds them?

You elect a president from either faction of the one party that rules the USA, the corporate party. You are presented with irrelevant non-issues to help you make your selection, but once elected the leaders are free to do what they wish, no further consent required. You are relying on the benevolence of our rulers, and a forlorn hope that their aims may coincide with yours!

Welcome to "democracy"

It's not right, but the people have no say in what the government does against it's own people. It's not the same country as it was founded to be. There is no free trade because it has cost this country dearly. But thanks for bringing it up and never stop asking questions.

The U.S. is one sovereign country among many.

It can make treaties that involve other countries including trade treaties.

Trade treaties give privileges and impose obligations on the various parties. There are usually enforcable rules that could include penalties for breaching the treaty.

This cannot be called taxation without representation, since your properly-constituted administration and government agreed to abide by specific rules because they were believed to be in the interests of the U.S.A.

(And, as it happens, NAFTA is very much in the U.S.'s interests.)

The US agreed to join it and they can leave it if they want so it isn't without representation.
