The UK is now one of the very few contries who dont accept blood donation from homosexuals.

Why are we still in the dark ages.

Can any body explain the ethical or medical reasons in defence or attack of this policy.

In my view - this is blatant discrimination.

The homosexual community has no more risk associated with it with regards to the contraction of disease as any other community.

Furthermore - ALL blood is screened and modurn tests can detect HIV/Hep B exposure within hours.

It is a prehistoric rule and hoprfully it will soon be disregarded.

If you are Gay and want to give blood, go ahead and do it - your sexuality is your private business so dont tell them, indeed, the Gay men I know are a damn site fitter than the hertos.

Australia does the same thing. They do not prevent homosexual males from donationg blood, only those who have had sexual relations with another man in the previous 12 months. There are no exceptions which is discriminatory. A couple that are HIV negative who only have sex with each other cannot give blood. A person who ensures that during sexual encounters there is no exchange of body fluids cannot give blood. Heterosexual males can have anal intercourse with female partners and practise unsafe sex yet they are allowed to give blood.

The Red Cross could remove the discrimination by asking the same questions of everyone regarding sexual activity. There is no reason gay men should not be allowed to give blood just because they are gay.

From your question you obviously don't donate or read the info when donating. Why do you come up with such rubbish when you read between the lines? It's not taken from anyone who they deem to be in a high risk group for HIV and not just homosexuals but drug addicts, sexual activity abroad etc. And not just HIV either but malaria risks and loads of other things as well. It's NOT discrimination or 'dark age' thinking but safeguards for those poor sods who need the blood you donate. You'd probably be the first to call a 'no win-no fee' lawyer if you became affected by a transfusion.

Yeah, the rationalization why he's banned from donating blood is to ward off probabilities of spreading HIV/AIDS. whilst it is real that the two the heterosexual and gay can the two carry HIV/AIDS, nonetheless, there's a larger possibility the homosexuals are in threat with the ailment much extra. different worldwide places have already amended their regulations approximately gay blood donation. uk and Australia allowed gay adult men to furnish blood provided they have not got any any sexual touch with same intercourse interior the final three hundred and sixty 5 days. For the US, i think of this remains a warm difficulty between the LGBT community because of the fact many homosexuals sense discriminated by using this coverage. examine extra approximately this deferral difficulty contained in the link under:

HIV is a blood borne virus and here in the US they don't accept blood from Homosexual or intravenous drug users. HIV can be dormant for as long as 10 years and a person will not have ant symptoms and the virus cannot be detected. So they don't accept the blood from high-risk groups.
Before this policy, many people contracted HIV by blood given during surgery.

It is not discrimination, it is just common sense.

Many blood banks do not accept blood from people in high risk groups, which they consider homosexuals.
It should be noted that countries that do accept blood from homosexuals usually use it for research, not as the :gift of life."

Some people, including scientists believe that homosexuality is basically a genetic disorder, hence the 'disease', and by transfusing blood from a homosexual, one's genetic make-up may become corrupted which overall, I believe, is absurd

Bloody right! It's not their choice of gender in satisfying their carnal desires perverse as it is .. it's their rampant promiscuity that has spread AIDS, warts, and venereal diseases of all sorts.
If I need anyone elses blood I hope to hell it's not from a homosexual.
