As a new mother, maybe I'm being panicky.
For the past 3 days my 2 month old has been really cranky. He's having problems sleeping during the day and he cries as if in pain. He was very colicky before but that seems to be passing and now when he cries he doesn't show the normal colic signs. He's also having problems feeding - he's hungry but he seems to play with his bottle in his mouth and he kicks his legs like he's fighting. A friend suggested that maybe his mouth might be sore from sucking on the bottle. I've never had problems with these bottles before, why now?

He's now 9 weeks and he's been on Nan HA from about 4 or 5 weeks. Its the one formula that seems to agree with him. He had his shots at 7 weeks and he was a bit miserable for 2 days, but otherwise fine. His bowel movements also seem to be constant - one a day at a set time each day.

Well there are two things that it could be, one is he has thrush, which is an infection in the month or two he's cutting teeth. My son has had both at one point, and teething is now lol. But you can get ahold of his doctor for advice.

Its ok, mother's always worry for their child.
try d suggestion on changing the nipple of the bottle first. Thats a start...feed your baby upright not lying down, these will also prevent fluid from flooding in the oral cavity thus preventing ear and other upper respiratory infections in the future. Check if your baby has fever, this will entail that there is an infection present.
Do a tummy percussion to check if there is gas present. How? place 2 fingers on the tummy and tap gently as if playing a drum. If u hear a hallow sound, that means there is gas present. Then, you should burp ur child.
To check if the child is having a bad reaction 2 d formula, check the consistency of the feces after feeding. If the child is having LBM, then stop the feeding and bring him 2d doctor.
About the nipple, check if the hole is too small or too big...most babies i helped raise have a certain type of nipple they prefer. Do you still remember the type of nipple you used before?...
If your baby is still cranky during feeding time, try cuddling him/her and dance a little. It always worked for my nephew and nieces. A child responds to cuddling and soothing touch. Rock the baby gently in your arms to calm him/her down. Do not shake the baby while rocking, it will lead to shaked baby syndrome which can cause some veins to rupture leading to brain damage.
Try also a face massage for your baby. Place hands on side of face and trace a smile towards the cheek, this helps in lessening stress from sucking.
Hope i was able to help. God Bless you and your darling baby.

A new mother can never be too panicky! You should contact your pediatrician or nurse and ask for advice. Has your baby had regular bowel movements? Maybe he has gas pains from constipation. Does he burp after eating? Big burps?? Is he possibly teething early? Is he running a temperature?? Maybe he is allergic to the formula you are giving him. There are many things that it could be. Oh, did he get his shots and it is a reaction to them? Anyway, contact your doctor as soon as you can and never feel that you are being too panicky. My son kept having asthma attacks from three months on and we made many trips to the emergency room. The one time I ignored his breathing and figured all we would do is get a shot or meds he really got bad and when I took him back, he had pneumonia and then I looked stupid for not having been too concerned!!

He can't tell you what's wrong and if he's crying as if he's in pain, he probably has a sore throat, sore gums, or an ear infection. Get a flashlight and look at his throat, gums and tongue to see if they are red, have white spots or swelling. Also look in his ears to see if his ear canal looks like it is closing or leaking. If it is an ear infection, if you put your nose in his ear there might be a foul odor. If all these things seem okay after checking them, then he needs to be seen by a doctor. You can't always detect the pain that a baby feels, but if he's kicking his legs when you try to feed him his bottle, that is definitely the sign of pain - all babies love their bottles!

You might try getting some new nipples and see if that is the problem, but if he is kicking his legs that much sounds like he may still have some tummy problems too.. might check with you Dr. and see if he needs to have his formula changed.. that may be causeing him a lot of gas, and needs to be on another type of formula... good luck..

Your baby could be a little gassy or constipated. You can try changing your milk. My 9 month old had that problem and I switched from a formula that was high in iron(which can cause constipation) to soy. Another thing you can do is massage your baby's tummy and press his/her legs into their chest. It always worked for us!

You say your baby just had shots? Check for a fever, sometimes the shots can make babies sick. Its also common for babies less than three months to cry for no apparent reason. If your baby cries for longer than three hours without abatement, you should consider going to urgent care.

Is he sick? Bring your baby to see a doc.. maybe he has sore throat which make him difficulty to swallow his milk even he is hungry. Don't let him cry too much... it make him breathe in more air and colic problem came again.

I read that babies tend to go through a really big crying peak around 6 weeks, and my daughter is 2 months old also and going through everything you just described. Perhaps its just normal and our babies are being babies.
