It doesn't matter, there are a lot of misinformed people out there you shouldn't be listening to.

Its better to shutdown a pc or laptop after use. Shutting down your computer after usage conserves more energy and frees up memory in your ram which improves system performance everytime you use it. This will also free up your temporary files in your hdd, because hibernating just stores your current data in your hdd and memory. Turning on you computer will just load this files on these devices, which is almost the same as booting up. It is true that turning on and off your pc decreases the life of your hard drive but it would take many years before this would happen, just avoid dropping or hitting your computer with high G's especially when working, this will cause hard drive error. Try to remove battery while using laptop at home in order for you to extend battery life. Good luck and have a nice day!

My computer won't install certain security updates unless I shut it down.
The only time your computer is 100 percent safe against viruses and hackers, is when it is completely off. Some computers even have Wake on LAN that allows the computer to be brought out of hibernate by a signal set over the network. A hacker could find a way to take advantage of this if your laptop happened to have it. It probably doesn’t though.
The only way to be 100 percent safe is to shut it down, and turn off the power strip. This will give your computer a chance to install updates, and it will greatly reduce the amount of time a hacker can find your computer on the net and sneak through the back door.
Also, hibernate does use a little tiny bit of power all the time to listen for when you want to come out of it. Hardly any though.

Yeah, it's bad for the hard drive. I read that somewhere too so I just put my laptop into hibernation mode. it boots alot faster and it starts up exactly where you left off. It's a good tool like and it saves a lot more time aswell, I reccommend it. Good Luck

it is useful to not have to boot up again but your computer needs to rest too. If a computer is left on for to long it may damage some parts. So hibernate it or put it on sleep in shifts and then at a convenient time turn it off til your next use

nicely, as quickly as I do something like that for a chum, it frequently takes some hours (3-4) of paintings. i don't understand how lots they are going to value you. the approach is: one million) back up stuff on yet another pc, virus test it on the different comp. 2) reinstall working device with reformat. 3) discover drivers and set up drivers. 4) configure pc on your liking and pass stuff back. no longer that complicated truly. merely approximately any pc will play DVDs at the instant. merely make effective it has a DVD reader on it. merely approximately any pc will do college paintings too, till the class is approximately video modifying or something. DVDs and word processing and such are low skill applications.

My rule is if i don't plan to use it in within the next 12 hours i hibernate it, if not within the next day i turn it off to clear memory.
Using the sleep option extends the life of your hard disk, but it contributes to resources waste and carbon emissions if we never turn off our computers & appliances.

i just hibernate the whole time. its good coz ur not wasting power by putting it to sleep. the other good things about it is that you can have your work still up and running and its quick to start the computer up again.

Put it to sleep. If you keep turning it off and on it will give the parts a chance to heat up and cool down and when they heat up they expand, so its just best to keep them going most of the time...
