If you get a couple cats then you better hope that they're good mousers. Some are, and some aren't. We live by woods, and always have trouble with mice. We had a cat that was really good catching mice. And while my son's burmese python was in the house we never had any trouble with mice. But, a cat would probably be the best answer.

They are probably getting in around the pipes in your kitchen, put steel wool down around any open spaces in the kitchen sink area, under it I mean, around the pipes, and the floor boards. even in the bathroom and the like.. if you don't have kids put out some decon, and get some mouse traps.. they have sticky paper ones now that work well, and ones that you can catch them that are no kill, and some that look like giant paper clips, that is what we got, and wham, they got them good !! peanut butter works well in the traps.
If you get the no kill I would suggest that you just throw it away with mouse in it, if you let them loose they will just go into someone elses house, or find another way back into your house.. even if you have pets, you can still put the decon out, just put it up high where they can not get into it, or under the sinks, and just watch to make sure they do not get the dead mice.. you have to really do battle, and fast, before it gets any colder, or you will really be over run with them.. they will tell their buddies where to come !! but do put down the steel wool, they can not chew thru it, and it keeps them from getting back in that way.. good luck..

Hello, get a mouse trap and put in some cheese to attract them to the trap... or buy a catch pad and place it in an area in your house where the mice is frequent, then put some cheese at the center of the pad... and hey just a piece of advice dont chase them if you are not sure to succeed, they do retaliate. Have a good Day! Godbless!!

Declare war on all mice and their ilk. You may experience some retaliatory attacks over the next weeks, but mice are generally stupid when it comes to warfare against humans, and you will experience great success. Stay the course! Show those furry bastards what you're made of!

Couple boxes of D-Con mouse proof placed strategically around the house.
Make sure if you have any kids and/or pets they can't get to it.
ps: You won't get rid of them once and for all, you'll just be able to control them.
