Well, since it's likelier that your girlfriend will have the son... LOL You know what I mean. If she doesn't like it there's not much you can do, you need to agree on the name. Or that's the ideal case anyway, she could just slip the name she likes in the birth certificate when you're not watching. ;) Alex RIvers as a whole name sounds very solid to me, but if RIvers is the middle name... well you've had plenty of opinions. Not the greatest choice. Drop the S and you have Alex RIver which might appeal to your gf more. Or not. Does she like Alex? If the given name is okay with her, pick a middle name you both like. I won't even suggest anything since I don't know your specific tastes. On a side note. Although Alex is fine on its own I'd consider giving the more formal version Alexander as a first name. It's a strong name that will serve him well also when he grows up and he has more choices for a nickname. Alex is gorgeous, but he could also go by Lex, Al or Xander.

I think Alex is lovely - I would have to say no to Rivers though, but at least it's the middle name which means the baby would still get called Alex. Can you not find something else to go with Alex that your girlfriends like too?

Alex is so overdone! I can't count how many people I know that carry that name! However, I think you are on to something with the Rivers. I would just drop the "S" and use River as a first name. Too cute!

i like the name Rivers, like Rivers Cuomo from Weezer. I like Alex Rivers. Even Rivers Alexander would be cute. Hopefully you can make some kind of compromise. If you'd let her name a future daughter whatever she wants, maybe she'd let you go for Alex Rivers. It is a nice name.
PS At least you aren't planning on naming a future child Clear Rivers (like Ali Larter's character in Final Destination). THAT sounds like a place name:p

I absolutely love the name Alex. But, I'm sorry, I don't like Rivers as a middle name at all... it reminds me of Joan Rivers, which doesn't sound like a boy kind of name. I don't know what your name is, but maybe you should name him Alex, and your first or middle name. Good luck!

Alex was our chosen name had our second child been a son. BUT Alex Rivers sounds like Joan Rivers' grandson. I'm just saying. How about taking off the "s" ?

Alex is just a short form of Alexander.
You wouldn't call a child Dave would you? You'd call him David and use Dave as a nickname.
Same with Alex. For God's sake call the child Alexander and use Alex as a short form/nickname.
As for Rivers, well I guess thats OK. It doesn't sound like a "place name" to me.

I don't like "Rivers" for a middle name. It just sounds odd to me. Alex is a nice name though.

love earth names, like Breeze, Willow, River, Onyx, Rain, Summer, Autumn...etc. Leave the s off Rivers. Alexander River. That way if your son doesnt like Alex, he can prefer Xander, which is nice too.

Rivers would be nice if your last name is typically a first name like MIKE (i know a girl whos last name is mike) because the s at the end helps when you have a last name like that (in my opinion)
but river is a girls name typically.
Its up to you and her though.
