It possibly could, if it's running at full tilt with no hard drive sleep at all. However, when I ran Windows, I had the following power settings for every laptop I ever had -

AC Power / Battery
Display Sleep - 15 min / 5 min
HDD Sleep - 15 min / 5 min
System Sleep - never / never
Hibernate - 45 min / 20 min
Close the lid - do nothing / hibernate

With these settings, I never had problems at all, and the battery had a good life span.

BTW, hibernate is kind of like sleep, except that it saves all the data in the computer's memory to the hard drive and shuts the hardware off, so if you have to swap the battery out, you lose nothing but the 15 seconds to 1 minute it takes to load that information back into memory.

Because laptops burn hotter, the possibility of those over heating is greater. I would not recommend keeping a laptop on 24/7. When you are finished using it, you should turn it off. You should also make sure the lap top has plenty of ventilation. By turning off your computer you also give it time reset and clear some of the problems that can built up with a lot of transactions.

Depends on the age of your laptop. Every spare part has its own life time in a computer. Just like we have a life time. Wear and tear help is reducing the lifetime. So said a research paper in the area that I read some months ago.

If your laptop was in a well ventelated area and air flow in and out of it is not hindered, it should be ready to stay on for months together.

No. Actually laptops can be left on for as long as they are designed for it. Although the exhaust fan in all laptops is less effective compared to that of an ordinary desktop pc. There is nothing to worry about. Just make sure that you give the laptop time to cool down.

Did it go into sleep mode at all? If not than more than likely the only thing you could run into is your computer overheating. Was it plugged into an outlet charging? If it was not charging you should be ok because it will just shut off once it runs out battery. If it was plugged in you could run into your computer overheating and frying. Check and see if your computer has a sleep setting which most do. Set it for twenty minutes of no activity will save you some worry.

It shouldn't, I've left laptops running for many days at a time without any problems (my uptime record is 87 days, not very good by server standards but not many people would have left their laptops on for 87 days).

Nah, but it can damage the battery, so if you're gonna have it on all day and not use the battery, take it out, because heat harms the life of the notebook's battery.

As the temperture on it gets higher, the life decreases.

Much debate on this subject. I personally feel it's better to keep a computer turned on all the time. It prevents wear from startup and shutdown.

Maybe, maybe not.

But why take the chance???

Best advice: If away from it for more than an hour, Power it down. Sleep and Standby Mode should never have been invented, IMHO.
