I've come to speak to you again. It means that the guy is like, totally familiar and stuff with the sad part of life, like when you break a nail or smudge your mascara when you're trying to put it on on the freeway. He equates sadness to darkness and he considers it a state he has been in many time, thus evoking the words, "my old friend." He is totally like, lonely and finds himself sad. Maybe he should join a fraternity like my suicidal brother did. Now he's the District Attorney.

being solitary or being in deep s_ _ t after making the wrong choices in life. "Darkness" seem like a friend, because the person is used to that negative situation already.

Darkness is a metaphor for depression or bad luck. The person singing this song is just saying that he is accustomed to being depressed or down on his luck.

I see it as meaning that he is alone and when it gets dark its time to sleep. And when you are sleeping you aren't thinking about how alone you are, and thus, the darkness provides him with relief from his loneliness. It is his friend.

The Simon & Garfunkel song Sound of Silence. I think it has something to do with being alone (being alone with the silence). I do not know for sure, but that was always my impression of it.

I think he is refering to the moodyness of the blues, of being sad. He is saying he frequently feels sadness.
