The challenge in answering your question is in the way the question is framed, in what is left unsaid... the suggestion that Muslims are trying to destroy America and that the liberals are supporting them.
First, have a look at the Muslim world...
from North Africa - Libya, Egypt, Sudan
to the Middle East - the Arabs, Syria, Iraq, Turkey, Iran,
to Asia - Afghanistan, Pakistan, Malaysia, Indonesia.
Other than Iran all these Muslim countries are ruled by regimes which have turned their nations into client states of the US. And before the current regime, so was Iran with the Shah as the poster boy of the US. Almost all have dictatorships, military rule, or a fig leaf of democracy. The people living here have no political freedom. This allows the rape of their resources - mostly oil by US corporations. The fact is that Muslims countries have been neutered for many decades now. They do not pose a threat to the US. The people who resent the enslavement & pillage of their countries try to fight back. Just as Americans fought their British masters.
The second truth is that the US government needs a "threat" after the disintegration of Soviet Russia. So it can continue to fight wars, for which it must continue to take loans, from the cartel of international financiers also know as the Federal Reserve. The US is the largest debtor nation in the world because of this. The Fed is a private institution and the income tax that is deducted from your payslips is directly credited to it.
Here is a hypothesis I'd recommend you check out for yourself - "Wars happen not by accident but by design". Check out who benefits from war and you will find the true causes.
If wars stop the US Government would be able to pay off all its loans and the strangle hold that the Bankers have on the US people would be history.
So the Muslim menace had to be invented (Huntington's - Clash of Civilizations) to keep the US war machine going, and the US government getting deeper into debt, so US citizens can keep paying taxes, and the Bankers can keep getting richer.
Muslims today are the equivalent of Tom Robinson in Harper Lee's "To kill a Mockingbird" and the liberals are the equivalent of Atticus Finch.

It's thinking like this that is causing so much trouble in the world.
Muslims, for the most part, aren't bad people. I've gone to school with Muslims, and they were some of the nicest people I ever met.
However, there is a significant percentage of Muslim extremists who want to kill people who disagree with them. But, that's not the "average" Muslim's point of view.
Besides, if we want to make progress in the Middle East, we HAVE to be friends with the Muslims. How else are they going to allow us into their countries to root out the crazy ones?
