- His mom let his stepfather sign the birth certificate so his last name is Taylor.

- His biological father last name is Young.

-A DNA test was taken when my fiance was 14 and he is the biological father.

-He is not in contact with his father.

-My fiance's mother last name is currently Young which happens to be her mother's (my fiance's grandma) maiden name.

How much will it cost to change his last name from Taylor to Young? Do we have to do it the long way with the judge and his name in the paper? We live in California. He is over the age 21.

He wants to change his last name to Young because that is his mother's last name for a long time (its the name she chose because it was HER -his grandmothers- mother's maiden name.)

His father is not in contact with his because he never knew about him until he was about 8. When he told his wife she said she would leave him.

Also to add to the person asking why he would want to change his name from the stepfather that raised him is because his stepfather beat him. His stepfather was arrested for child abuse. My fiance was 12 when he got beat so bad he **** himself.

Call your local court house clerk for the fees.

P.S. They don't need to hear a story, just change it or just answer their questions without explanations if passable, keep things simple is what I am trying to say.

Im pretty sure you dont need a judge... people change there name all the time for no reason other then they want to.. he could change his name to young regardless if it was his biological father's name or not..

just call the court house and see where you need to go and what it will cost... the fee will only be the cost of them filing the paperwork..

Change of last name is a special court proceeding that will take more or less three months depending upon the flow of the court proceedings.

if he is not in contact with his biological father, and the step-father raised him, why would he want to change his last name? he needs to go to the courthouse, and fill out the paperwork. if he can prove his father, then he can change his name, but i don't see why he'd want to if he had no connection to the guy who just provided his sperm.
