Guys, do you like it when the girl makes the first move, or do you think it's too bold? And girls, would you make the first move and let a guy know you like him or would you wait for him to come to you first? I'm talking about a respectable approach with marriage in mind, not just flirting to have fun or pass time.

We take prophet Mohamed PBUH as an example. Below is copied from the website link at bottom of my answer.
Mohamed’s marriage to khadija Setting new roles for men and women:
Mohamed’s work in the caravan of a wealthy widow named Khadijah was an important stage in his life. Known to be a trustworthy and a truthful person, he managed to conduct successful business for Khadijah. He even undertook a journey to Syria after which he returned with larger profit than usual. Khadijah seemed to be impressed by his honesty and attractive personality that she asked him to marry her.
But again, as I see it, the way Mohamed married Khadijah seems to set new values for the Arab society and even flouts the established roles of men and women that we find in most societies nowadays.
So, unlike the stereotype usually associated with women that they should be shy and never take the initiative when it comes to a crucial issue like marriage, Khadijah was the one who took the initiative and asked Mohamed to marry her. What is more is that Khadijah herself was 15 years elder than Mohamed, a fact which surely flouts the norm established in many societies that a wife should be preferably younger than her husband or at least of the same age.

I think if the chemistry really hit me than I would somehow let him know that I was interested and available, even if it was through a trusted third party.
You know the old saying, if there is a will there is a way!
I love the story of the widow Khadija bint Khuwaylid and the Blessed Prophet pbuh.
She took the initiative and I often wonder what would have happened if she had been of a more timid nature.
Their story is one of the things that makes him seem so real and human to me and the story of their love and dedication to each other through out all those first difficult years. Its an important part of The Message that has been given to us.

No I would never make the first move! Espically if your in America just make the first move to a boy and you'll never hear the end of it. The muslim community here is limited so anything that a girl would do you'll find it all over. If someone wants to talk to me they have my parents thats what they are here for

I will talk about myself, well I think it's difficult to me to take the first move.
May be I am a little shy especially in this situations, may be I am not strong enough to accept refusing if he refused me.
I know that our prophet is our sample in everything including this situation but with all respect to you guys I think that most of you won't deal with the girl like the way that our prophet deal with "Sayeda Khadiga".

I made the first move and she showed content (that's my wife)
But I would not mind to have the girl making the first move as long as it's elegant and with grace.

Hey there ya Farah,
I am talking about me here, but i prefer to know that he likes me first before i make the first move. Maybe i am shy maybe i am proud, i don't know. But it is a nice feeling to have and live that feeling when you know that someone likes you and i wanted to have this moment and cherish it forever.
Alhamdulelah i did.

yesssssss, i would make the first move !!
and yeah i sent him a message, after feeling that i admire his character, behaviour, attitude and virtues, as well as of course i felt that there is mutual admiration !!!!
hehehe.......... i told him don't be shocked by my boldness or frankness :D
**but i didn't make this move till i was sure from my emotions, and also i've imitated "Sayedah Khadijah" (radya Allahu anha) when she proposed to our lovely prophet Muhammad (S.A.W)...... !! :-)
and Hamdulliah, for i always love and fear Allah Subhanu wa Ta'ala........... He rewarded me the best ever, Hamdulliah :-)

I would not have any problem asking a man to marry me. I would also not have a problem with a man 15 years younger. If you love someone you see no age.

If I make any move now
My wife will shoot me
OK long time ago I made my move first but my wife sent me some clear hint that she loves me , so I was confident that she won't let me down
I'll stick to this way.
