No. Hypnosis cannot be used to "forget" memories - that's only in the movies. Hypnosis can only be used to retrieve those which have already been forgotten - - and even then, hypnosis is a guess-and-check procedure, with little success. Often, it will take multiple counselling sessions with the practicing psychiatrist before he/she is even ready to attempt the hypnosis.
There's really nothing magical about hypnosis - it pretty much just "excersises" your brain, and sort of shows your subconscious how to recall different inforamtion in different ways. It's only about recollection techniques, though. There's no way to teach your brain how to forget something.
At least, in publically practiced hypnosis anyway......

RE:
Can hypnosis block or make you forget a bad experience?
I would like to completely forget some events that happened this year. They say every experience makes you stronger and grow but some bad experiences only traumatize. Can hypnosis block out these bad events from my mind? I see in movies that the reverse can be done.

If you're familiar with hypnosis, then you've no doubt heard of Master Hypnotist Steve G. Jones. His book, "Ultimate Conversational Hypnosis" has been voted as the best hypnosis course ever made. The book is also available in electronic format at: http://www.hypnosistocontrol.net
If you want to get an edge in everyday communication and lead other people towards your goals this is a must read.

In short, no. But therapy, maybe even hypnosis therapy, can help you get through the pain. I firmly believe that there isn't a single event that ONLY traumatizes you and doesn't give you an opportunity to grow. If you're still alive, then you will survive the pain, and afterwards, you'll be stronger than before, with a better understanding of who you are and what you want out of life.
The more you fight the memories, the stronger they will grow. If you can accept the events, or at least accept the pain you feel around these events, then you will heal much more quickly.
I'm sorry that you went through something so traumatic. I wish you well.

There are many different models of psychology that would offer differing explanations for that. Psychoanalysts would say that you are repressing those memories as a coping mechanism. Theoretically, you could recall those events under hypnosis, although that is disputed because the recall could be tainted by suggestion. Generally you will remember how an experience made you feel, or how it makes you feel now in retrospect, as opposed to actually remembering the concrete details of the experience. If remembering a specific event causes you distress, you might unconsciously suppress the memory from surfacing.

Hello Maria
Sorry to hear that your having problems.
As a hypnotherapist the answer has to be no. But hypnosis can offer many means for you to work through your issues, to help alleviate your thoughts.
Unfortunately there are no magic cures, wish there was my darling. Never trust the medias portrayal of anything!
Events that happen to us, however bad, can be learned from, so when your ready take steps to get the guidance that you need whether from a good friend, Dr or hypnotherapist.
In Peace
Pam

It absolutely is possible. The brain can and has been trained and carefully arranged to forget specific events in the patient's life. However not many hypnotherapists will be very willing to do this, and especially if it is a large event that changed a lot in your life. Imagine having a large event wiped from your memory, you could not recollect why many things that happened as a direct result of it, happened. Thus, leaving a large gap of confusion. If it is something minor enough, you can convince them to wipe it. I know a small story of man who had a feeling of dread and he could not recall why he had it. It was becuase he had it wiped. He had to go back and have it reversed becuase it was killing him. Anyhow, good luck.
