If the US government has decided that by the age of 18 you are mature enough to join/be recruited/ or drafted (when they chose) to the military (carry a gun and fight for our country) and vote for the country's top leader, then, in my opinion...you are mature enough to drink alcohol. if you are responsible enough to fight for this country and vote for our leaders then you should be responsible as well for your alcohol consumption. it's all about education and communication. many 25 - 50 years of age (or older) have been the cause of a death involving alcohol.

thats a hard one you know, mainly on the drinking. I know that the biggest majority of kids i know, mainly around the age of 18 to 20, drink because of the rush of it. There is always that chance of getting caught. Then when they turn 21, ok, its legal now, so hell, its not soo fun. I think the only plus of lowering the drinking age to 18, is that it would be legal, and not as much of a rush, and not as many kids would do it. But then again, i do know that it needs to stay at the age 21.
Now with the voting. Hell no, i'm sorry but i don't want a child who has only the thought of sex, drugs, cloths, and all that other teenage worries, voting for the next president. Not saying its like that with all teens, but i'm not so comfy with the fact that the biggest worry on their minds is their hair, and cloths, and making sure they are on the popular list. The voting age is too low the way it is anyway. I'm 27, and i don't feel that i have enough experiance to choose the next person to run the country. Neither does anyone else under the age of at least 35 for that fact. Though there are some at the age of 23 that have experianced more in their life then most 80 yr olds. I guess we all just have to hope that the majority vote are by people with a hell of a lot of experiance in life and not a bunch of kids who have no clue how the real world works yet.

19 for both! Heck, it was 21 when I was old enough to drink and vote, and I survived, but I agree 21 is too high an age limit. At 18 many are still in school. When the limit went to 18, schools saw some kids coming in after liquid liquid lunches for afternoon class.
If someone is in the forces at 18, an experience which grows you up pretty fast, I say they are mature enouth to have a drink on base facilities, and be given the vote. If, at 18 they aren't in the forces, they can wait another year, and grow up a little more.

I think 21 for drinking unless you have a college/university ID or a military ID, and then it should be 19. This keeps the high school kids out of the bars even if they're smart and can go to college early.
Voting at 18 is a good idea because it's the age of adulthood. Someone who is 18 and can be drafted should not have 16 year-olds voting for politicians.

Who would you vote for at 16?
The drinking age was once lowered to 18. It did not work, and that is the reason it was raised to 21 again.

No we should NOT lower the drinking age. Teen-age drinking is terrible and will ruin a child's life. Drinking in general is a bad thing because of drunk drivers and abusive people who turn into monsters when they're drunk. Are you nuts?
We can lower the voting age. If boys and girls are 18 and can fight for our country they should be allowed to vote.

People should only be allowed to vote when they are mature enough to make a decision based on the information given to them. So I'd say about 8 years of age for voting. Seeing as how the government tells us nothing anyway.
As for drinking, with the violence and anti social behaviour it causes plus the disruption to a persons education i think we should save it for when school is over, and possibly longer say 21. But if you are concerned about road fatalities perhaps 25 would be better.

Both should be changed. Drinking should be allowed at 18. If a soldier is old enough to die for his country's beliefs at 18 then he is old enough to have a shot of Jaeger on his way out.
And the voting age should be raised to 30. that way all the liberal crap that is fed into youth is replaced with the reality that most taxpayers want less government and more control of their own life.

the issue is wheter v need any minimum age limit for drinking and voting. if so, the present position is ok. there is no certainty that if the age is lowered to 16, some time later some one may ask to futher lowere the age to 14.
