Since you are old enough to raise hell, and possibly hit the "doctor", they will give you pain control for the surgery. However after-wards will be a different story, Tylenol will hardly help enough for the pain, and then when you pop a woody it will be pure misery.

Expect a week of substantial pain followed by about a month of soreness.

lynn a: I wish they had cut off my earlobes and left my foreskin intact. Comparing mutilating a boys penis with piercing ears, get real, you evidently know nothing about male anatomy, but don't feel bad many "doctors" don't know much more about complete males.

That tissue which you dismiss so easily contains the five most sensitive areas of the penis, no part left on a "circumcised" penis can compare to that which is cut off. The glans (head) of the penis is actually the least sensitive area of the penis and that is what is left for a "circumcised" male to feel pleasure with.

Yes it is! And the recovery post-surgery can be long and traumatic. Unless strongly advised by a doctor, there is no reason other than for medical purposes to get this operation done. Only 15% of the world's men are cut, usually against their will at birth. And mostly in America. What a gullible country to believe it provides life-long betterment for the boy.

Adult males lose 15 square inches (40 square centimetres) of skin in circumcision, over half the skin of your penis. You lose the gliding action as it slides on itself during masturbation and sex. You will suffer bruising, perhaps some bleeding, and the swelling from the disruption to the lymph system goes on for up to six months. Removing the foreskin turns the surface of the glans from an inner mucosal membrane to outside skin. Newly circumcised adults usually go through some weeks of intense discomfort as the glans is constantly exposed to rubbing on clothing, until it develops a thicker keratin layer and becomes less sensitive. You must abstain from ALL sexual activity for an average of six weeks. Some men like the final result but others complain of loss of sensation and miss being able to slide their foreskin over the glans. Circumcised guys often have little or no movable skin left and are forced to masturbate using lube or rubbing dry, without the loose skin. There is no going back if you don’t like the result.
A new study has shown real differences in fine touch sensitivity between circumcised and intact penises and that the most sensitive parts of the intact penis are those that would be removed by circumcision.
Many women who get to interact sexually with an intact penis prefer the natural state. Don’t do this to yourself just to fit in. Be proud of your whole and natural body.
Getting circumcised to prevent cancer is just plain silly. Penile cancer is extremely rare. So rare that you have a higher risk of dying from a circumcision that from penile cancer. Anyway circumcision does not prevent penile cancer. Non-circumcising countries in Europe have lower incidence of penile cancer than circumcising countries.

Well, he won't have to go what newborns go through:

http://www.pslgroup.com/dg/1f21e.htm
http://www.cirp.org/library/procedure/plastibell/

That's because they would actually numb you or put you to sleep.

However, recovery is another issue. That's the painful part. For about two weeks, pain and irritation is common, especially with erections or any rubbing on the wound. After all, the wound is around the most sensitive part on the body. So yes, it can be painful.

If you have a tight foreskin, see the following link. It's very easy to fix.

There's other things to take into consideration. The USA is the last developed nation doing circumcision on a significant scale without medical or religious reasons. That means Europe and Japan (and Latin America and China, for that matter) don't circumcise. Circumcision rates in Australia and Canada are low, and in Africa... it varies by nation/tribe. Here's a worldwide map that gives you a general idea of where circumcision is common:
http://www.circumstitions.com/Maps.html

In the United States, circumcision rates vary by state, race... and other factors, like the year you were born. For the most part, the West Coast has the lowest circumcision rates, with some states as low as 14% now. Compare that to national circumcision rates being around 90% back in the 1960s and 70s. US data:
http://www.cirp.org/library/statistics/USA/staterates2004/

When erect they look very similar since the foreskin slides back. Don't worry about it; both are quite common.

On the other hand, consider the advantages that you have.

The lubricated foreskin (on the inside... like your eyelids) slides up and down during sex and masturbation to stimulate the head.

Studies have found that circumcision reduces sensitivity (this article also mentions how it has lost popularity in the USA in recent times):
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,285532,00.html

And despite being more sensitive, you still last in the same six minute range (average) that circumcised guys do:
http://www.blackwell-synergy.com/doi/abs/10.1111/j.1743-6109.2005.00070.x

Makes masturbation more difficult:
http://www.blackwell-synergy.com/doi/abs/10.1111/j.1464-410X.2006.06646.x

Which makes sense, that's how it was made popular in the USA:
http://english.pravda.ru/science/health/27-03-2006/77873-circumcision-0

Increases erectile dysfunction rates:

Well, they are cutting in the most sensitive part of your body -- what do YOU think? If you have it done medically, you will get numbed for the surgery itself and get pain killers for the aftermath, but they really don't do that much for the intensity of the pain you will experience. If it is done ritually, you will receive no pain relief during ot after, as standing up to intense pain is part of the ritual.

You CAN say NO to this procedure. If your ethnic group normally cuts boys at your age it will take a lot of guts, but your adult sex life will be better if you have all your man parts. And complications do happen; the operation is by no means risk free. Are you strong enough to put your future welfare ahead of present disapproval and ridicule?

I was circumcised at 18 and it wasn't bad at all! I was cut in the docs office with a local. Was sore for a few days, nothing Motrin couldn't handle! Really the best thing I ever did! Sex is 100% better when you are cut and women tend to love going down on it as well! Also the health factor is enough to have every boy cut at birth!

No it isn't painful and I had it done when I was 16.
It was done under a local - it was quick and simple. I expected pain to kick in once the anaesthetic wore off but it never came at all.

You better believe it is, thats why I did not have my sons circumcised, I know a man who ended up having it later in life and he said it was VERY painful. SOme people say do it while your child is young so that they wont have to go thru the pain when they are older, to me this is ignorant no matter the age ITS GONNA HURT.

Hi,
Pl. do not get nervious .
Circumcision is the surgical removal of the sleeve of skin and mucosal tissue that normally covers the glans (head) of the penis.
When done without pain medicine, circumcision is painful. There are pain medicines available that are safe and effective. It is recommended that they be used to reduce pain from circumcision. Local anaesthetics can be injected into the penis to lower pain and stress in infants. There are also topical creams that can help. Problems with using pain medicine are rare and usually not serious.

It's like peircing your ears. I have to laugh at mothers who say how horrible it is and how they're not gonna put their kids in such pain- GET OVER IT.

It is a small sacrifice for lifelong happiness- circumcised men have less prostate cancer, have better penile health, look larger, have better erections.

My husband was never circumcised due to his mother's "caring" about her son's pain during the procedure..and he surely regrets that he wasn't snipped. He has to pull the skin all the way back or it stinks with "head cheese" aka smegma or bacteria under the foreskin. He can get raw after vigorous sex and it has caused problems in our sex life. Ask most women and it just doesnt look good... the majority of women will say a circumcized, flacid penis looks MUCH better than an uncircumcized one. Plus if God commanded His people to have it done, you know it was for a good cause.

My daughter has her ears peirced too...wonder if she still remembers the pain?
