My friend keeps doing high rev neutral burnouts in his 2002 acura. he revs it to about 5000 and drops the shifter into drive or low. Will this ruin the transmission or engine? he doesnt seem to think so! how many neutral burnouts can a car take these days? in the 70s, my high school buddies used to do it all the time and never had a problem, but i dont thnk it is the same now a days?

I would really like to be there to see that one. That tranny will eventually blow apart. It would be a really cool show. Then HAZ MAT (or environmental people) would give him a little piece of his mind for having 10 quarts of trans fluild on the ground.

Ive seen drive shafts snap because of this. I made a lot of money towing these kinds of idiots

In the 70s trans were more stout larger parts inside and less to do. He is asking a electronic control over drive , Front wheel drive to do a lot. Not only is the trans in parell of going of like a bomb, but he is also puting undo presure on the outer cv jonits and the trans & motor mounts. Give it time something will go

that can indeed do severe damage to any transmission. on a honda/acura, that transmission is basically a self shifting manual transmission. by doing a neutral drop as it is called, you are forcing the transmission to shift into gear under extreme conditions. you can not expect good things to come from that.

A car is meant for what? To be driven, not beaten. I have friends that do that kind of stuff. They are all on their 5th or 6th vehicle before the age of 20!!! Yeah it will break sooner or later.

he might get away with it for a little while but one of these days soon it will go bang! and you will see the wrecker coming to get it to take it to the garage for a new tranny and maybe motor mounts and axles.

boy...I wanna see that tranny go...I want to see his face when it does too...please take pictures for us...and tell us how much Acura is gonna charge him for the new tranny....(they're gonna know from the onboard computer what he's been doing and he won't get the tranny for free...)

I'm betting $7000 for a new tranny...anyone wanna bet with me ??? (we got parts...labor at $45 dollars an hr..time lost...vehicle lost...boy..I'd pay to see the tranny blow for this one...)

may damage clutch, tranny and engine too, 5,000 RPMs is close to red line, If they got the money to fix them, let them do it , that's how mechanics make our money
