My Irish cousin eorparch-agus-eireannach... has corrected me and I now refine the answer to say "Northern." Finoa is correct, but I'll settle for any Monarch and leave it open for one more day. I was hoping to start a few brawls with this, but I guess the previous warfare between religion and royalty has left the populace of England, Scotland, Ireland, etc., somewhat jaded on the issue.

The most important monarch was Elizabeth I. She ruled wisely and was very careful about keeping the peace between her Protestant and Catholic subjects.

Since the Kingdom of Great Britian and Ireland was not created until 1805, that excludes suggestions such as Elizabeth I and Henry VIII (who were monarchs only of England!)

George VI is much under-rated. His decision to stay in London during the Second World War, often visiting bomb sites in London, did much to maintain the reslove and moral of the British against the evil Hun.

Well considering that country no longer exists and most of the people that would have lived in that time are now dead, you're not going to get an answer.

The country is now the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Most of the island of Ireland is now and independent republic and it's people are citizens.
