Myself & my partner are looking at moving to Dubai. Basically to make money & also see another part of the world.
We are not married, so that i suppose will be an issue.
I work in Admin or Retail & my partner is a Personal Trainer with Fitness First.
I dont really know the first thing about what to do about moving overseas?
Is it really a great place to make money or is there another country we could look at going to?
Any advice or help would be grealy appreciated :)

1.If you have very good qualifications you stand a good chance of getting jobs. I think you both should look at work in hotels health & fitness centres and administrative jobs there.

2. You should know it is against the law to live together if you are not married, and when renting an apartment you will be ask for documentation to prove your marriage status. Don't take the risk like others maybe doing, it is not worth it. You can live in separate apartments though or if you work in an hotel they could provide you each with accomodation.

Hi there, I would advise you to do extensive research before moving. As there are 2 of you, you have to make the decision together. I don't know where you are currently, so it's hard to suggest other cities ( as they would have to be better than where you are now) Singapore is a great place if you're looking at Asia.

There are a few things you need to know about Dubai.

1. Rent and inflation are very high (Your tax-free salary must justify paying such high rents)
2. Because of high rents, many people end up sharing apartments with others to minimize cost.
3. Opportunities are indeed aplenty but there may be slight indiscrimination in the job market.
4. Unmarried couples are NOT permitted to live together. Landlords require you to produce a marriage certificate before you sign the tenancy contract.
5. Statistically, there are about 40 road accidents per day (Ranging from minor bumps to fatal ones)
6. Traffic is a nghtmare!
7. It may be a tax-free city but there are hidden costs or costs incorporated to prices of consumer goods that make them comparable to many other major cities.
8. Summer can see temperatures rising to a high of 50C but winters are pleasant and it hardly ever rains.
9. There are many red tape procedures which can be quite a hassle but not impossible to go through.
10. You need a liquor license to consume/purchase alcohol.

Once again, research will help you make a better decision. Don't get caught with, "I didn't know....."

Good luck! I live in Dubai so if you have further questions, you can contact me at aud@newflightcrew.com

If both of you can get a job teaching ESL, yes, you will make money. Most places want a BA and a TESOL certificate - easy to get. Your first jobs may not be higly paid, but once you get some experence, you'll make money. I know teaching is not what you do, but check this site out www.eslcafe.com. Go under the international forum and find Dubai. If you register you can ask questions of people who live and work there right now. It's a good site, even if you're not a teacher. Go under the "stuff for teachers" thingamagig though, to find the forum.
