A second or two after you boot(before the very first screen which comes up changes) you should start pressing the F8 key at the top of your keyboard continuously. A menu with options of boot mode will come up, something like:
Safe Mode
Safe Mode(network supported)
..
..
Last configuration that worked
Enable VGA Mode
You have to choose the: Enable VGA Mode here and your screen resolution will be either back to normal or the icons could be too big. If the later is the case, try right clicking on an empty area of the desktop, select Properties, then the Settings tab and change the resolution to 800X600 or 1024X768 (try the 8X6 first) and click the Advanced button. There, click the Monitor tab and set the refresh rate to either 60 or 75 Hz. Select Apply, a counter will appear and you have to select OK before the time runs out, after that just select Ok on the other menu and you are done.
That is if you are running Windows XP

I just reinstalled WinXP and initially had the resolution too high. and my 19 inch Samsung told me the resolution was not optimum.
Right click your desktop and click "properties" and go to the "Settings" tab. From there, click the monitor you want to change (if you have more than 1) and drag the slider under screen resolution to 1280x1024 pixels.
It's probably already at 60Hz but if not, click "Advanced" and go to the "Monitor" tab and change the screen refresh rate to 60Hz.
Good luck.

If you mean by to computers that you tried both at a time, then that would definitely not work. If you mean 1 computer at a time, then I don't know what to tell you. Get a new monitor? Diagnose the problem? Look the problem up on Google? I don't know what to say.

Because it's an LCD monitor. "1280x1024 60hz" is your monitor's "Native Resolution". Set it to that and leave it there.
Read your monitor's instructions.
LCD monitors aren't the same as CRT Monitors. They only have ONE optimum resolution.
