i had my son on the 20th of july he is at home and doing great no medical problems at all. but the day before i had him i was cramping and spotting and i went to the hospital(at like 2am) to make shure that every thing was ok. they told me i had a bladder infection & to take some antibodytics (sp?) expect cramping and stick it out. well i did untill about 2am the next day (20th) and when i got there i was 7cm dilated(sp?) and had him with in an hour of getting there. my question is should i file a suit because i was at the hospital telling them something was wrong and they sent me home with out doing a ultrasound or a pelvic exame. or should i count my blessings that my son is alive and doing great.

Well, my auntie had her gall bladder removed and nearly died.

Not only was the surgery completely botched, she almost bled to death in the recovery room.

No lawyer would even take her case because she lived with no lasting effects.

So, yeah, try to find a lawyer, you could get lucky and rich.

i say both also...doc are only human, but they should of done something more than just assume that you only had a bladder infection...i have worried about going into early labor since 18 weeks and just last wk(22wks) i was cramping really bad and was soo sick and went to the hospital and they checked everything ti make sure nothing was wrong. You are lucky your little one is alive and well and you are able to hold him everyday. Be thankful...although you werent ready for hm to be here so soon he was ready to meet you...i would consider talking to a lawyer tho...get a professional opinion and go from there. Congrats on the bundle of joy!!

I would file a complaint with the hospital. They should have sent you to Labor and Delivery as soon as you came in to get checked out. This is what my hospital did when I went in at 21 weeks last year. Unfortunately my water broke and I ended up losing my baby girl. My son, though, was born at 29 weeks and my doctor told me he would meet me at the hospital when I called and told them I was spotting and cramping. My son is now 3 and no delays at all.
Good luck with your baby boy. Don't forget that you need to go by his corrected age for development. I always got irritated when people kept telling me "My baby was doing such and such by this age" and I would reply, "Was your baby born almost 3 months early?"
No, it wasn't the hospital's fault that she went into early labor, but they could have stopped the contractions and been put on bed rest and been given steroid shots to build up the baby's lungs.

Aww im glad to hear he is doing well, that must have been so scary for you to go through.

I would be taking action, what happens if something was seriously wrong, they sent you home without checking and something happened to him!! It's very seriouse, this is your child and they should have done every test imaginable before they sent you home especially that early on in your pregnancy. Anything could have happened, you are just very lucky he is ok but i would be kicking their A**** into that court room.

Congrats on your little boy, im really glad to hear her is ok and at home with his mum and dad now where he belongs, you must have missed him soo much while he was in hospital.

Count your blessings first! Secondly, You should sue them that is the problem these days they don't take pregnant women seriously and it is not right at all! I don't even waste my time with ER because they treat you as if your stupid or something, did they atleast do a urine test?????? to make sure you had a bladder infecion? I wish someone would bring up these issues, best of luck if you take it to the next level! And congradulations on your baby.

Well i'm not sure your going to find your answer here but maybe you should get legal advice yes, but the fact is he is healthy and doing well now so there isnt really anything you could do. If he had medical problems because of prematurity then yes you would have a case...

I know it's hard but remember that doctors are human too and being human means making errors. I don't think you should let it go. Write a letter to the hospital board expressing your concern but be happy that you have a beautiful son and he's healthy.

Both. You are blessed that you had a baby that early with no health problems. But they should've done more! There COULD have been something wrong, and it could've been their fault. So people need to know that they're not doing what they're supposed to do.

It isn't the hospital's fault that you went into premature labor. I don't think you'd be successful in your suit against the hospital, and I understand how frustrating it may have been for you that they didn't diagnose your labor properly.
It happens though...so I would say, be happy that your son is alive, and doing great. Congratulations.
