unless you have a custom "corrected" cam.
Did you put on new P-wires ? you may have a bad wire.

There is only 1 firing order on a stock 454.
Check and make sure the carb is bolted down all the way. Also make sure there isn't a vacuum port on it that doesn't have a vacuum hose going to it or the vacuum cap hasn't come off. Also check the shaft that the butterfly's mount on on the bottom of the carb. If there is any play between it and the carb housing you will get vacuum leaking through and it will never run properly.
Make sure you haven't mixed up two of the wires. That would also cause it to run rough.
Everything points to a vacuum leak, though, so check everything else first.

the fireing order SHOULD be stamped right on the intake right in front of the carb but like some of the rest have said it sounds like you have a vac leak. take a can of starting fluid and spray LIGHTLY around the base of the carb to make sure it is sitting right if it is not the motor will ideal up some!!!!! if it stays the same try it on the vac hoses!!!

It's hard to say without being there. Try changing the timing it don't cost anything.
