I do want to add that I am NOT trying to bash females or make this a "girls hatting club." I am just curious regarding a certain behavior. I am not a expert and my observation can be completely skewed depending on who I hang out with.
And someone made a point on men using CAPS, that is very interesting

Women are more anxious to make their point.
They need to be understood more than most men do.
a man can move to the next subject while a woman tends to want to put closure on it before moving on.
So the importance of exclamation marks are just trying to show they are alive and responding with all their heart.
best wishes!

Yes, women can be quite expressive at times (when I speak or write in my native languages I tend to be slightly more emotional than when speaking or writing in English), however, I've noticed the same in some men.
There are two men whom I've exchanged e-mails with here on
Y!A, both use the exclamation mark much more than I do (and more than most women I know), so I think it is a matter of the individual personality and/or expression of emotion at the moment, not necessarily gender related.

I'd say its because in general, men just talk shop. Its in their gene's, so we just go one regarding a conversation and its expected that the other guy picks up what information he needs. On the other hand, a woman is generally more emotional. Much more than men ...again..in general...so when they have a point to make or think something should be emphasized...they use the !!!! marks.
It could also be that some women think they guy they are talking to are dumb as a stump and they need the !!! marks to flag the important part of the conversation.

Listen up, True believer! It's obvious you haven't been a fan of comic books by Stan Lee! Exclamation points are a sign of the Merry Marvel Magic! Read classic tales of the Amazing Spider-Man! The Incredible Hulk! The Fantastic Four! The Invincible Iron Man! The Mighty Thor! And remember to always say, "Make Mine Marvel"!
Excelsior!
EDIT
I guess this is the wrong crowd for making jokes with comic book references.
Stan Lee, co-creator of all of the characters mentioned, was notorious for putting an exclamation point after each and every sentence and thought it gave everything more drama. And he was a guy.

I've noticed the exact opposite: it is almost always males who use the exclamation mark and who write in caps (yell). It's usually like: "FEMINISTS! Do you ACTUALLY believe you are even HALF as good as men!!!?" I can see the argument for the exclamation point, because women tend to write their excitement, while men tend to write their anger. So a woman might write, "I can't see why we can't all just get along!!" But caps lock, with only a couple of exceptions, seem to be the preferred style of males.

Why do women spell and have better grammar? Seems like Gender and Women's studies is a girl bashing party. I couldn't find a Gender Men's Studies section, that's odd? Makes me feel like the He-Man women's hater club with some of these questions LMAO!

that is existence. some human beings improve stretch marks. truthfully, i ought to care much less. i'm going to be conscious them on others, yet that would not lead me to decide that individual or view them as something much less. i attempt to embody each and each individual for their individuality, stretch marks secure. There may be no such subject as 'flaws' if human beings did no longer view issues as flaws and permit societal bias to electrify their concept of others interior the 1st place.

women are more detailed creatures and emotion thinkers.
we use and take advantage of the sybols that convey emotions in our writing.
you will also find at times, men use puncuation less than women. (this does not apply to all men. especially ones who are teachers or intellectual professionals. they tend to 'being their work home' so to speak by being formal even while conversing with friends)

I almost never use an exclamation mark.
Seems overly expressive to me.
Perhaps you hang out with drama queens???

Women tend to generally express more emotion in life, so it's only logical they would also do so in e-mails.
