has sinister overtones? Wasn't it invented by propaganda experts in our government and universities to discredit traditional core values? I mean have you ever wondered where it came from and why?

You have hit the nail on the head it is EXACTLY as you have put it. It is a method of control, what a wonderful way to make people think the way you want them to, prosecution if you don't think the way they do. Big Brother IS here a little later than 1984 but here never the less.

I believe the term "political
correctness" is a bogus term
that means absolutely nothing.
There are a new set of "rules"
that the media or press, or
someone invented, and if anyone thinks an original thought and acts out of the norm, all of a sudden, they
are "politically incorrect".
What a bunch of hogwash.
I think the same and talk the
same as I did 40, no 30, no
20-Oh Lord, how old am I now?

Some corrections were needed in our society in the past. Much progress has been made. But political correctness has run amuck when Christians are thought of as "intolerant" because of their beliefs. Doesn't that in itself scream intolerance? Don't we have the freedom and the right to believe what we wish to believe?
Another area where political correctness has gone crazy is in race relations. I am not at all a racist, but I totally resent it when I'm told that I cannot be discriminated against because I am white. Someone actually said that! I also resent the term "reverse discrimination." Discrimination is discrimination, no matter where it is directed.

I doubt that it was invented by the gov--takes too much coordination. I believe it was started by people who meant well but that it got out of hand. I am totally against it. The Bible says that whatever is in your heart is what comes out of your mouth. Well, from what I've seen of humanity, I believe that to be true. Couching trash in pretty words does not make a person any nicer or believe anything different. I would far rather have somebody be totally non-pc and totally vitriolic, and to show their lack of empathy or their racism up front than to cover it up. I want to know who is going to be an enemy right up front rather than after I've decided to trust what they say and then get stabbed in the back. And, if I haven't forgotten my history, we have the right to free speech. I don't recall seeing anything about "...except when we make fools of ourselves or make somebody else uncomfortable or hurt their feelings."

It is very very possible that it was invented by our govt. for sinister reasons...but I also have to agree with the answer that suggests where it came from and how it has gone bonkers!

I totally agree with you. That makes me Politically Incorrect.

If we would just go back to being cognizant of the facts at hand, and treat them as such, we would have fewer problems.

All it takes is a little pragmatism.

Sinister yes, but actually it's nothing more than "socially acceptible" (with the extra kicker of "whether it makes sense or not" (and usually not)).

Yes, I do. I think that the actions of some to limit what we can say/do has gone too far.

I think it started with bleeding heart liberals, but that's just my opinion.

I don't think it was invented by anyone. They just finally have a word for it. There have always been "acceptable" attitudes and beliefs and unacceptable. Exactly what those acceptable beliefs and attitudes and unacceptable beliefs and attitudes are is all that has changed.

At it's inception, it was needed. Too many people were too insensitive to others.

When it was a growing phenomenon, many of us realized that our speech could be offensive and we paid a little more attention to how we expressed ourselves..... That's a good thing.

But, it has gone completely bonkers....and become silly and ridiculous.
