Bank 1 has the # 1 cylinder. It could be left or right depending on vehicle make. Bank 2 is, obviously, the other bank.

Bank 2 is the far bank of cylinders usually the even number cylinders. (a four cyl does not have a bank 2) Check with the repair manual for a precise description for your vehicle.
