Every member of my family that has died thus far has died a slow and painful death from one or another form of Cancer. I have watched four grand parents and two great grand parents suffer for over two years before finally reaching their end.

I am a war veteran. I've been through some terrible things that keep me up at night. I have come so close to my death that I find it hard not to wonder how on Earth I survived. Yet Cancer scares the life out of me. I do not want to have happen to me what I saw happened to my family. I am a vegetarian, don't touch drugs, barely drink, exercise daily, am in great shape and live a very healthy life. I have every intention of living past 100 years and dieing of natural causes in my sleep.

I hope you do to some day far far away.

Well friend ... as you know it took my dad's life just about a month ago - at only 61 years of age. We found out about it last January and he was gone 9 months later. He fought like h*ll, but it was an aggressive smart cell cancer and he just went down hill so fast. I am still devastated and there still hasn't been a day that I don't cry a bit when I think about a memory or his contagious laugh. Although I know that God has a plan for us all I can't help but feel cheated and a bit angry. It gets a little better each day, but I know the pain will never be gone completely.

I am SO grateful you made it through and are here and well. Stories like yours give many people much needed hope. My dad was my hero and my son adored him. He lost his grandpa to this demon and I have vowed to do whatever I can to educate others on cancer prevention and to support those who are working hard to find a cure. Although I can't get my dad back ... I can honor his life by making a difference. I intend to do just that.

Peace to you ...

Good luck to you Lisa - you have many years to come yet. Yes, it sucks big time - I lost my eldest sister to it, a friend's 16yr old daughter has just had an operation for ovarian cancer and another friend's young daughter is undergoing chemo for breast cancer. I am retired so cannot afford much but I do give £2 per month on standing order to Cancer Research. I do feel there will be a breakthrough one day in finding a cure for this terrible illness.

I have survived prostae cancer for 10 years, and last week I had a skin cancer surgically removed. I pass it off by saying that 2 beautiful women cut my throat. HA By the way my answer the other day may have seemed harsh, I`m sorry

Cancer sucks, yes.

My friend just had a lung removed and 3 ribs.. she's gotta go through 14 more rounds of chemo... she almost died and it's a miracle she's on this earth still... truly a miracle.

She's 31 years old and she has an aggressive form of cancer usually reserved for old men that work in mines all their lives...

I love her and I have to know she'll be ok.

It does. My husband was diagnosed with cancer 6 months after we got married. He was 23 and I was about to turn 20. He's in remission now(has been for 5years) and everything is going good.

And then, about 2 years ago, my mom and my grandmother were diagnosed(within a week of one another) with colon cancer. My mom is in remission now(surgery only) but my grandmother will have chemo for the rest of her life and has a colostomy bag. And about a week ago they told her that her chemo wasn't doing what it should anymore. So yeah, cancer sucks.

Cancer does suck. I lost my b/f of 13 years to cancer of the larnyx 10 years ago. He was only 42.

I agree completely - I have really been extremely lucky in my lack of exposure to it. I have lost a couple of people I knew to cancer that I can think of - but that is about it. I do remember one of my father's best friends being diagnosed with cancer of the pancreas and lymph nodes about ten years ago....he had passed away within a couple of months of us being told. He lived in Virginia....so we didn't see him very often....but it was still a shock. My mother represented us at the funeral. He was 52 years old....and had a 5-year-old son at the time. My father told me that my grandfather also had the same cancer....he passed away long before I was born, though.

As I say....aside from that....I have really been very lucky in my lack of exposure to this terrible disease. I completely agree with you! Good for you!
