This is a complex geo-political question. Many people have criticized our invasion in Iraq (including myself) but can not deny that Saddam was a miserable dictator. However, at the same time, the same group of people has urged the US to enter Darfur, Sudan and other war-stricken countries to help tame the violence. What are the responsibilities and obligations of the US (and other global superpowers) in terms of conflicts and inhumanities in foreign nations? Are we justified to enter other nations, no matter how cruel and inhumane it is??

I think we should leave humanitarian situations like that up to the UN, which is extremely impotent and lacks any real value to the world, but that's what they are suppose to be for. Maybe send aid and some peacekeepers, but as for troops, we should let the UN send the troops. I do find it hypocritical, that the same people that say we need to leave Iraq, because it's a civil war. Want us in Darfur, whom is having a civil war.

As for Iraq. I don't believe Iraq was only about humanitarian issues, and WMD's. I think it's much deeper than that. Keeping oil production in the Middle East and the oil market stabilized. And, as Glenn Beck puts it, creating a vice around the real threat over there; Iran.

Very complex question! I feel it is the responsibilities of the UN to handle such nations on a need too basis. If the US is needed to help reduce problems in a nation then so be it. However, we (the US) should not take it upon ourselves to police the world for the sake of politics, oil, moral... without the consent of the world.
Yes we are one of the most able nations in the world but if we started the crusade to take out all the dictators and end all civil and holy wars we would have one hell of a fight on our hands.
We, the US, can not free the s*** out of every Corrupt Nation!

The UN has already tried to make us "the worlds police", but we have to be very careful and cautious. We should never involve our country, militarily, into any other country, without an invitation or a valid reason related to our countries safety.
