The primary violence in those kinds of movies is physical abuse (which can include sexual and verbal abuse), because they are the most visual for the audiences. But surely, the fear and pain on the faces of the victims will readily depict the type of mental abuse that, if the victim survives, will leave deep psychological scarring for life.
It's kind of like when a soldier witnesses the horrors of war and returns home - what he or she has witnessed has definitely affected them, for life. They call that "Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome" by the counseling community.

physical abuse: happened THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE MOVIE.
emotional abuse: i would say once we realized that the indian doctor, the guy and the daughter were all a part of JigSaw's "game"
sexual abuse: the naked lady hanging in the freezer
verbal abuse: i believe Amanda (JigSaw's "helper") has thrown the word b*tch out there a couple times

The Burning Bed with Farrah Fawcett. When no one would listen is another one. I know of more but i cannot think of the names of them right now. Watch Lifetime Movie Network as they have alot of these types of movies on. How about the one with Julia Roberts called Sleeping with the Enemy. These are just a few of them.

What kind of class has something about Saw for homework? I hope you're in college, because if you're in high school, I think you're mother should rat that teacher out to the school board. I'd have a cow if a teacher expected my kid to watch Saw for homework. Yuck!
