I want to add a 600 sq foot apartment onto my house. I live in Alabama in a neighboorhood with no restrictions this is for my 76 year old mother who is in good physical shape. I need a blueprint to get a idea of what we are talking about or a website that will let me punch in what I want.

I would like to sub contract out the work myself who do I call first? Do I have the land prepared first and if that is yes who do I call?

I hope I have not asked to many questions at once!

You need an architect to draw up plans. Plans are needed for permits and a builder to work off of.

Even with no restrictions you will need some
form of approval for any changes of that kind.
You will have to present a drawing with a stamp
applied by an architect or engineer to get it.
The work will be subject to inspections a certain
times during the project.
If you have no experience, trying to be your own
general contractor, ("sub-contract out the work myself"),
is a real bad idea. You will learn a lot
- but it will cost you, in both time and $.

You can make your own blueprints with a program called Home Design. It's made by Punch and you can get it for around $50 at Office Depot or Best Buy. This program is Awesome!! You can actually see the finished product before you start work!

According to how level the ground is, you need to call the concrete man first.

First thing you need to do is settle on the addition plans.

Second thing you need to do is get permits.

Third thing is to get someone to build the addition and roof it.

Fourth is heating and cooling

Fifth is drywall and paint

And last but not least, tile and carpet.

Permits are generally issued by the county.
