Make sure the fuel mix is proper and clean with no water. If you haven't done it for a while, check the spark plug for cleanliness, wear, and correct gap. Make sure there is no varnish build up in the carburetor. Make sure the jets are adjusted properly. Make sure the air intake is clean and unobstructed. Make sure the muffler is clear of carbon build -up. Make sure the points are gapped properly and are clean. If the engine doesn't have points, make sure the ignition module is in proper shape. Make sure the timing is proper.
Set the choke, and give the starting rope a pull. If everything is proper, the engine should start with one or two pulls. Set the check to off and the engine should run smoothly.
Some of the engines on the least expensive or nonprofessional models do not last long. When purchasing one of these tools, do not buy the cheapest and stay with the well -known and quality brands that are made in the U.S., Scandinavia, or some of the Japanese major brands. Don't buy the Chinese ones.
When through using these tools for the season, make sure the fuel is drained.

MAKE SURE YOU PRIME IT SO IT IS GETTING GAS, THEN PULL THE STRING AND SEE IF THAT HELPS, IF NOT MAKE SURE YOU HAVE OIL AND GAS IN IT, OUTSIDE OF THAT YOU MAY NEED TO GET IT FIXED SOMETHING ELSE IS WRONG AND WITHOUT REPAIR IT WON'T START.
