80% of humanity, the religious folks, don't need to ask the meaning of life, the church tells them....the supernatural explanation. But the rest of us can't swallow religious dogma, because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.
I've come to two conclusions recently:
1. Life has no meaning
2. Life has a million meanings.
First, there's a certainty that death and annihilation awaits not only you, but the Earth in general. It's an astonomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp, not to mention all the other extinction level events around the corner.
Second, the million things that give us meaning are the pleasurable experiences we can conjure up during the short period we are here on the earth, in the form of the relationships we have with our kids and other people, and the 'housekeeping' types of purposes. What i mean by that are the curing disease, ending hunger, improving literacy, reducing crime, preventing war, helping other kinds of things.
So the bottom line is, we only have a temporary meaning to life, to reduce pain and increase pleasure, other than that everything is lost to oblivion.
To be or not to be? "To be" is temporary and "not to be" is inevitable.....

We, as humans, have sought the answer to this question throughout time, and will continue to seek until we cease to exist altogether.
This simply worded question has sprouted countless debates, and has begun endless wars.
In essense, this question is the reason for religion. If we didnt feel that we had purpose in this life, then there would be no reason to have a belief in a god or afterlife or any form of deity or devine creation.
Humans are born, and when "constructed" correctly, they are born into love, and created out of love.
If the act of love creates life, and the purpose of love in the act is form bonds and create life, then perhaps the opposite can proove true as well, the purpose of life is to love.
therefore--
love = life
life = love
this may be true, this maybe false, but what else do we have to go off of? other than a pointless and random existance

In my opinon:
We do not have a default 'purpose' when we are born.
You live your life the way you want. You choose your goals and determine your purpose. Therefore, it varies and some live their lives with no purpose.

Each perosn has their own purpose for being here. Some of us are stll searching for what that is. But as a species, Our purpose in life was to be the guardian and care giver to this lovely planet of ours and to all the creatures upon it. It looks like we haven't done a very good job.

only you can determine what your purpose in life is. I think that is why we are living.
