NOthing is going on, they have a new coach, they are slowly adjusting. They've (Brodeur) has only given up 9 goals in his last 5 games winning 3 of them.

This team started on the road, on the road you don't get the benefit of the crowd, or last change, or home cooked meals, etc.

They have 4 of their next 6 at home and they are only 1 game below 0.500 (which is nearly identical to last year at this time) so there is lots of time for the Devils to get into gear.

Over the years the Devils have managed to deal with all kinds of personel losses (Scott Stevens, Niedermayer, John MacLean, Holik, Sykora, Mogilny, Arnott...as well as numerous coaches), and somehow they still managed to be contenders in the Atlantic division.

However, I think the loss of Gomez and Rafalski has finally pushed them over the edge. Going into the season I just didn't see New Jersey as a team that could put up enough goals to be anything above a 7th or 8th seed team.

From my understanding, its the blue line's problem.
Brodeur has finally hit it. I don't think he will play as good as last season.. He's finally slowing down. They'll recover, like always, but certainly not as strong a team.
It wasn't good firing their coach right before the playoffs. They need to find a consistant coach who can lead them where they want to go.

they lost players and after the first few days of Free Agency there were not that many good players so they were smart and didnt waste money

they need to add to their team to be a playoff contender, not to get in cause i think they can do that, but to compete

Same thing that's wrong with the Rangers, Ducks, and Sharks... ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. Most teams would rather start slow than finish slow...
