the infection occurs during pregnancy , it can be important to determine the cause, as some of the mono-like infections (but not EBV infection) have been associated with pregnancy. Consult a doctor (OBGYN) and make sure in the mean time to get plenty of rest and make sure to stay hydrated (drink lots of water, or Gaterade, which help replinish your electrolytes).
Usually only self-care is needed for mono.
Get plenty of rest.
Gargle with salt water or use throat lozenges to soothe your sore throat.
Take acetaminophen (such as Tylenol) or ibuprofen (such as Advil) to reduce fever and relieve a sore throat and headaches.
Avoid contact sports and heavy lifting. Your spleen may be enlarged, and impact or straining could cause it to burst.
In severe cases, medicines called corticosteroids may be used to reduce swelling of the throat, tonsils, or spleen.
Good luck!

she should call the dr. first thing tomorrow. some mono cases can be pretty bad, and since she is pregnant, she's really going to have to take care of herself. plenty of sleep and double the fluids....
Mono takes quite a toll on your immune system. she needs to contact a dr. to get some instructions from a professional.
also, NO exercise while you have mono. I had that a few years back and that was the direction from my dr. also, dont take all those over-the-counter meds that someone posted above. that's not going to help mono, and it will be useless to therefore take.

Well I think you need a medical opinion. I would try calling a Doctor and get the facts about some one with mono. Who ever you get information from, make sure they know what their talking about.

The presence of a mono infection during pregnancy is not associated with miscarriages or birth defects, but it does warrant close medical attention to fever, decreased appetite, and potential dehydration.

The best thing for her would be to consult her doctor. If your friend eats well exercises and stays healthy she should get ride of her mono and the pregnancy should go well. Don't worry about it just tell her to make sure she sees a doctor asap.

I don't think she's at great risk, but she needs to go to the doctor for both prenatal care and advice about her mono.

she found out she was pregnant....does she have a good family network to help her out? if she does please be supportive and allow them to care for her. she shouldn't be ashamed of being pregnant, if they know the doctors will do what's best for her and the baby. certain drugs are bad for expectant mothers so it is best you let her know to tell her parents about it. good luck and do not keep it to yourself about her even if she doesn't want to let the parents know, you can, she'll thank you for it in the end.

Tell her to go to the doctor. Early prenatal care is more important than anything else she can do for the baby. Go with her if she needs you to. But she NEEDS to go to the doctor.
