I believe there are other, more effective, and less harsh forms of punishments available at my disposal other than spanking.

Yes I have spanked my children and I will continue spanking them if they continue to choice to disrespect myself and other adults. I also have other forms of punishment as taking away things and time out but if my kids decide they want to push and push then they will get a spank on the bottom. Do i abuse my children? NO! I do teach them respect though. I am completely against those mothers that are out there abusing and beating their children. But I am sorry I was raised being spanked and I learnt fast what the word respect meant. I am ready for all the thumbs down and honestly oh well I am tired of the children disrespecting everyone now day because someone is deciding when and how we should discipline them. Maybe its time to go for the real child abusers. Oh and by the way no I am not an old lady born in the olden days I am a 26 year old mother and I will make sure my kids respect you when they see you at the store. Mine wont be the one yelling and screaming kicking on the floor for a peice of candy or knocking into you and then blaming you for being in their way. Mine will be the one smiling at you and saying please ad thank you.

It is a rarely used form of punishment in my house, but yes, I have. My children have actually asked me if I could just spank them and get it over with, rather than some of the other forms of punshishment I use- grounding to the house, from all electronics, from favorite toys, from the phone, from the computer or any combination of the above.

Yes I do. I don't have to do it very often but it's quite effective. It's a last resort type of punishment but the kids know that they pushed the envelope to the limit when they get spanked. My husband and I always receive comments on how polite, well behaved and HAPPY our children are. Maybe because they know what their boundaries are which is what all children want.
The village is not raising my child, I am. The village will always want to take credit for my child's accomplishments but they will be the first to point the finger back at me and my husband for their misconduct. It's my husband's and my job to teach our children right from wrong... a job I take seriously for the safety and well being of my children!

Absolutely! For the first few years of their lives but very rare in the past couple of years, because they know right from wrong.
Kids need to learn there is a consequence for stepping out of the boundaries that should be set for them. What happens when they disobey as adults? They end up in jail where there are no time outs or soft punishments. Breaking the law is breaking the law, even if it is my law which i have made for their own good.
So let's hear your less harsh forms of punishments?

I do not have children but the only time I could think of that I would spank them is if they were about to do something very harmful to themselves (running into a street after I said no, playing with the stove, etc.)........there is a difference between spanking and beating....

I have 4 kids , I only spanked one once. I always believed I could reason with them. I never ever told my kids a lie of any kind, and that one spanking was not in anger.

Yes I have. They are 25 and 26 now and have their own and will tell you they needed it more. This is not true. They were very good kids and very rarely did I have to spank them. They were both very tender hearted and it would break their heart for me to discipline them. My grands....a different story!

No but if I had any I would probably have spanked them One time and from that day on they would learn what respect and obedience means just from the look they would get whenever they thought about acting up. Spare the rod spoil the child.

I used to think like that too untill I had children. I give them a warning and if it doesnt work they get a spanking.

No i dont have children but my mom sure did beat the sh*t outta me when i was a kid...im talking belts and shoes and enough to make me afraid to have kids for fear I would do the same to them
