He believes this will help the state know where the illegals are even though they won't have to renew for 8 years and could move anywhere. He also believes that people who don't honor our border or immigration laws will honor the law that requires insurance on their vehicles if they are licensed. Both are horrible assumptions.........

The main reason he wants to do so is that there are over a million illegal aliens in New York State, by most estimates. These people are going to drive, whether they give them licenses or not. This way, at least they have to have insurance to get their license plates and if they don't they have to pay a fine. But, it mainly serves the purpose of being able to better track the illegal aliens in that state, which has been a challenge, to say the least. He cites security concerns, along with a disgust that Congress and the President have not passed immigration reform which would make this step unnecessary. They would receive a license to drive, but could not use that license to gain access to anything that holds a national security concern - such as boarding a plane. What I am surprised hasn't been mentioned more is that eighteen states have already taken similar steps so they can better track their own illegal aliens.

The commie crates only way to power is through control. the only times they have succeeded is when they act like moderates as they had in the last elections. This is also why political correctness serves them so well in colleges and institutions. They cannot control the vote so in his attempt to create more voters legal and illegal mr Spitzer has concocted a plan to do just that he is a man who is use to getting his way and going after people and using threats and intimidation's to gain more power which has served him well thus-far. What he is doing is creating a terrible mistake and not only jeopardizing the safety of new yorkers but those of us in the whole country. This megalomaniac has to be stopped by all americans with any sanity left. It all boils down to gaining votes catering to the illegals who he will eventually make citizens the mexican and south american voters that will ensure mr spitzers dream of a dynasty in albany. Once again creating Votes that the democrats just do not have to win the nation. So they will steal them as they always have in the past.

Governor Spitzer's ulterior motive is to increase the voting base for the Democrats. Of course all of the minorities are going to vote for the party that is trying to give benefits to theirs friends and relatives. The fact that these friends and relatives may be here illegally makes no difference. Spitzer figures that the race in NY will be close as Hillary may need every single vote, legal or illegal, to defeat Rudy.

He feels they can then vote and they will vote for him or his party. Catholics are for it because they feel they will get more parishoners and get more money. By the way I'm a Democrat who is Catholic. This is simple Illegal means breaking the Law. immigrants like Italians that came to this country through ellis island had to be sponsered by someone in America, they were examined for diseases, isolated if sick until healthy, backgrounds checked if a criminal sent back. They learned our language and only spoke their native language at home, the became U.S. Citizens by our laws. Compare that to people that run across our borders, refuse to speak english, demand rights want to get ahead of the people that are trying to become U.S. citizens the legal way then call people racist or Xenophobs if they don't get their way.

Without a valid driver's license they cannot purchase auto insurance. No fun when you are involved in an accident with an uninsured motorist.

Can we please put to rest that "they want the votes". Only citizens can vote--illegal immigrants cannot vote and it is unlikely they would foolishly risk the dangers of registering to vote.
As a side note I believe all illegals who are in contact with the police or civil authority should be deported, I am just stating the facts.

They should not be here in the first place (illegally) not to mention driving. If we can't keep track of them now, what makes you think a license will improve the situation---The Governor does not possess the backbone to do the right thing he's taking the easy way out for future votes.....

I just want to add that it would be impossible to insure a car or register and inspect it without a drivers license.

Nearly impossible to work without a drivers license.

I think he was worried about a lot of people driving around without training and insurance.

Also what was said already, I think he thinks its better we all have ID's

Because his real name isn't Spitzer, it's Hector Gonzales Rodriguez Escobar. He is really a Mexican drug lord sent here to infiltrate the US government and to legalize all illegal aliens so that someday, they will take over the United States...oops! Too late, it's already happened.

New lawsuit against Governor Spitzer
Another hit to Governor Eliot Spitzer's driver's license plan.

Monroe County Clerk Cheryl Dinolfo has filed a lawsuit against the plan that lets illegal immigrants obtain driver's licenses.

Dinolfo says that she's tried to block the plan in any way she can but says the state is ignoring her complaints.

Dinolfo says illegal immigrants with driver's licenses are a direct threat to our society.
