My best friend is trying to decide on a name for her kid. She and her boyfriend can't decide. Tell me what you honestly think of them. (keep in mind, the baby's last name will be FIELDS)
#1 - boyfriend's pick:
"Aeon Flux"
#2 - my friend's pick:
"Summer Rain"
I don't know what to say. They both sound a bit lowbrow to me. What do you think?

Oh, she asked what I honestly thought and told her I'd think on it.
Also, she said she only chose "Summer" because of the surname "Fields" - not sure what to make of that one...

BTW Aeon Flux is a character from this guy's favourite TV show. I've never seen it, but I know it was made into a Charlize Theron movie.

The baby is due in a month. They have already decided a boy's name - Jaydenn Sydney. They just have been waffling for 7-odd months on girls' names.

Anyone who thinks naming their child after an anime character is obviously thinking about themselves and not their child's future on the playground and when their teacher has their back turned.
The movie was sub par, while the anime was decent, anyway.
And Summer Rain automatically brings to mind Volkswagens, patchouli, and free love. Does your friend want that associated with their child?
I understand the desire for baby names to be original and trendy, but sometimes giving them a name they won't change the very first second they can is always a nice alternative.
You can always go the route my mother went and butcher the spelling of a name, THAT'S revenge for hours of labor, I think.

bad bad bad bad idea
Aeon Flux will get the poor girl made fun of every day in junior high, and it doesn't flow well "Aeon Flux Fields." Plus it might be a name that the parents will grow out of an regret naming her that later. Aeon is beautiful, but "Aeon Fields" sounds like some kinda fertilizer corporation.
Summer is a great name as well, but "Summer Rain Fields" sounds like a deodorant.
If you're best friend is the type that appreciates bluntness, you should tell her what you honestly think. If not, you should try to steer them away from those names by giving them examples about how it could affect the baby girl when she's older. I know it sounds silly, but names can sometimes make or break a person. Ever heard the Johnny Cash song "A Boy Named Sue?"

Aeon Flux Fields sounds ridiculous. I think that Aeon is a pretty cool name, but she doesn't need to be named after a movie or a movie character. She needs to find her own identity. Aeon paired with something traditional... Aeon Kate or Aeon Elizabeth or Aeon Corinne... I don't know, but NOT Aeon Flux. In my opinion. :D
Summer Rain is okay, but it's used. And it does seem a little hippy-ish. Again, just my opinion. Naming a child is a very personal matter, and it's up to them entirely. What they pick will follow her everywhere though, so why don't you very nicely and respectfully remind them that she has to take her name to interviews and to school and to college and to board meetings... and whatever else her life may entail. Names do make an initial impression in some cases, and they have the power to make that a good impression.
Just my opinion! Hope that helped! :D

with the last name field Summer Rain is a bit much. My three year old daughter is named Autumn Raine. Which is not much different. Of course my daughter's last name isn't fields. As for Aeon Flux that a target kid waiting at the play ground.

Oh dear. I normally try to avoid saying trashy. Some names are unsophisticated, others are awkward.
But in this case? Both picks are tuh-raashy!
I'm not opposed to taking inspiration from nature or fiction, but to name your kiddo the SAME NAME as an animated heroine? That's just bizzare. I might use Aeon as a middle name, but even so, it's an extremely unusual pick.
As for Summer Rain? Summer, yes. Rain, okay. If you must. But with the surname Fields? I get hay fever thinking of it.
A few thoughts that you might pass on:
July Aerin
Lyric Rae
Tuesday Elin
Ruby Augustine
Juniper Elise
Journey Maren
There are so many great names out there, and many are quite rare. Hopefully they're just in the early stages of choosing names and will come to their senses.

I'm pretty sure that Aeon Flux was an animated TV show that aired on MTV a few years ago. Seems like an odd choice for a name (maybe Aeon or Flux, but not both together. Too much like naming the kid "Ally McBeal" or "Happy Days.")
Summer Rain is just "not my style," but I guess it's a decent name if you like those sorts. It would get my vote between the two.

Aeon Flux is a joke, right? lol I hope so. Summer is actually a really pretty name, but definitely not with Rain - that is just a bit tacky. Oh wait, the last name is Fields? idk if Summer Fields could work lol - I personally would love it, but it really depends on what kind of person Summer grows up to be. If she's strong and independent, she won't mind all the jokes I'm sure will come with it, but if she can't handle that kind of thing, maybe not.
If she and her boyfriend pair Summer or Rain with something else more ordinary, it would probably work - Summer Alissa, Summer Jane, Summer Fiona, Rain Annette, Rain Amelia, Rain Naomi, etc.
Good luck and congrats to them!

Aeon Flux is absolutely horrible.
Summer Rain wouldn't be THAT bad except for the last name being Fields, then it's a joke.

I think Summer alone as a first name would be pretty but Aeon Flux is a bit over the top but just try and encourage her as best as you can
